Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 525

"Well? What do you think?" Anne asked excitedly. "Since we're already expecting a baby, why don't we just go and register our marriage? If we can't plan the wedding on time, we can just postpone it and do it after the baby is born!"

"Even if I were to agree to this, my dad might not feel the same way," Zachary replied with a grim expression.

"Don't worry! As of now, your grandmother just wants to meet her great-grandchild and spend quality time with the entire family. My mom's almost managed to talk her into the idea.

"Since our moms have been good friends for years, your mother would definitely be on board with this. As for your dad… he's just finding it difficult to accept things for what they are at the moment. Just give it some time—he'll probably come around eventually."

Zachary picked up his glass and took a sip of water. "It's not as simple as you make it out to be. Even if all of them were to agree to this, Uncle Don would still oppose the marriage. After all, it'd be difficult for him to move past what you did behind his back."

"So what if he opposes the marriage?" Anne barked with contempt. "He moved out of Kane Manor ages ago. Once we get married, we'll be living our own lives. What we do is none of his business!"

She continued, "Besides, Giselle's dead anyway. I've finally let go of my grudge against Donovan. There's no point in dragging the issue out, and hating on him wouldn't make me feel any happier!

"As of now, I just wish we could get married as soon as possible so our unborn baby can have a complete family."

Upon hearing her comment, Zachary asked casually, "Are you sure that the baby you're carrying is mine? You're not lying to me, are you?"

Anne froze for a moment. Then, she yelled, "Zachary Kane, you bastard!"

Angered by his questions, she threw her spoon in his direction and snarled, "How dare you ask me such an insulting question? What kind of person do you think I am? You're the one I've been dating for the last few months. How could you be so callous?"

To her surprise, she'd just finished yelling when her abdomen suddenly began to hurt.

"My stomach hurts," she said as she got to her feet.

Subsequently, she clutched her stomach and crouched down. The pain was growing more intense by the second.

"It hurts… What's going on?" she rasped. "My stomach hurts so bad…"

Once they arrived at the emergency department, the doctor performed an ultrasound. Then, he asked, "Didn't you just take an abortion pill? The drug is causing your uterus to contract. It's normal for the process to be relatively painful."

"Abortion?" Feeling shocked, Anne exclaimed in a weak voice.

"Yeah," the doctor replied quizzically. "Did you not take the pill yourself?" Medical abortions are only suitable for month-old pregnancies, though. You're more than two months into your pregnancy, so you might need a D&C to remove any remaining tissue from the uterus."

Anne was mortified. Feeling slightly lightheaded, she shook her head and began to tremble.

"This isn't true! You must've made a mistake!" she exclaimed emotionally. "I didn't take any medication! I wanted to keep the baby. Why would I take an abortion pill? You've made a mistake!"

Another nurse chimed in and said, "We didn't make any mistakes, Ms. Holt. These are all symptoms you'll get from taking an abortion pill. There's no doubt about it."

"I-Is my baby still alive then?" Anne asked in a trembling voice. "Are you still able to save my child?"
