Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 538

Gideon took a deep breath and said, "Don't take that proposal to heart. I was being too impulsive. I shouldn't have put you in such a difficult position right after you recovered, but could you at least promise me one simple thing?

"What is it?" Giselle asked softly.

"Never leave me again," he said. "Let's just keep living like this. Let me take care of you every day, even if it's only as a friend, or in whatever way makes you feel comfortable."

Hearing his almost pleading tone, Giselle felt a dull ache in her chest.

Without much hesitation, she nodded. "Of course. I've already been cut off from the rest of the world. In this new life, there's only you. Without your effort this past year, I never would've made it through. You're really important to me."

She would never forget what he had done for her over the past year.

When she had first woken up, unable to speak or move and filled with panic and despair, it was Gideon who stayed by her side, comforting her patiently and giving her the will to live again.

During her most fragile and vulnerable days, Gideon gave her the best protection the world could offer. He became everything she needed—doctor, nurse, caretaker, nutritionist, and therapist. He stayed by her side every single day, pouring all the patience and care he possessed into her.

Whenever despair overwhelmed her, Gideon was always there to pull her back. He would speak to her softly, weave humor into her pain, and somehow turn her tears into laughter.

With him, she felt the long-lost warmth, safety, and peace she had been yearning for. Slowly, both her body and her soul began to heal under his care.

He couldn't hold back any longer and asked, "Be honest with me. Do you still have feelings for him?"

"Don't bring him up!" Giselle snapped.

Irritation flared in her chest as she turned away and said coldly, "All I feel for him now is hatred, though maybe a small part of me is grateful too. If he hadn't been so cruel back then, I never would've found the strength to keep going. I've left his world behind and started over, and I won't let him be part of my life again. So please, don't bring him up. I don't care about him, and I don't want to talk about it."

Hearing her calm yet resolute words, Gideon felt no relief. Instead, a deep sense of guilt settled in his chest.
