Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 544

"No!" Giselle shouted.

She looked at Gideon as if he had gone mad. "I won't agree to that! If you want to go back, go by yourself, but don't you dare tell anyone where I am."

Gideon's gaze stayed fixed on her. "You don't want to see him?"

"Who? I don't want to see anyone!" she snapped.

"Stop lying to yourself," he said bitterly. "I'm not a fool, Giselle. I know exactly what's in your heart. I've thought things through. As long as you're healthy and happy, that's all that matters to me. I'll take you back to him."

Giselle's anger flared. "You're being ridiculous! If I wanted to go back, I would have done it the moment I could walk again. If I wanted him to find me, I could call him anytime. I don't need you making choices for me. I've worked so hard to walk out of his world and cut every tie between us. I will never go back. If you're tired of taking care of me, then leave. My only request is that you keep my whereabouts a secret."

Gideon fell silent for a long time. When he finally spoke, his voice was hoarse and hesitant. "Giselle, if I've kept something from you, could you ever forgive me?"

Giselle frowned. "What are you talking about?"

She spun around and stormed into her room, slamming the door behind her.

Once she collapsed onto the bed, a dull ache spread through her chest. Before she knew it, tears were streaming down her face. She had survived death itself, and outwardly, she seemed fine. She could walk, talk, laugh, and eat like before. But deep down, she knew she would never be the same again.

Her body had been through too much. The bold, fearless woman she once was had vanished. She could no longer take on extreme sports or live with that wild, unshakable confidence. The epilepsy left behind as an aftereffect chained her to daily medication, and with it came a quiet sense of weakness and shame. Her hope for the future had faded long ago.

In that state, love felt like a distant, unreachable thing. All she could do now was take each day as it came and be thankful that she was still alive.
