Dorothea raised an eyebrow. "Next Friday? Don's been working himself to exhaustion lately. I doubt they've even had a proper date yet."
Ethan interjected, "Doesn't matter. Let's get the engagement settled first. If we wait for him to take the initiative, he'll always be too busy."
Marselle felt slightly disheartened.
Dorothea smiled at her and asked, "Marselle, are you at least satisfied with Don? Have you thought about the engagement? Don is hopelessly busy and doesn't really concern himself with marriage matters. If you have no objections, we can take charge and settle it for him."
Marselle gave a noncommittal smile. "I plan to spend a little more time with him first. It's better to understand each other more deeply before discussing an engagement. Besides, Mr. Donovan only lost his wife a year ago. He might still need time to adjust."
Hearing her considerate response, the Kanes didn't press the matter. They simply smiled and continued with the dinner.
By the time the meal was almost over, Zachary returned.
"Zach, have you eaten?" Grace asked.
"I have," Zachary replied impatiently, with a hand in his pocket.
When his eyes landed on Marselle at the table, he gave a polite nod. "It seems we have a distinguished guest at home. Hello, Ms. Sterling."
Marselle smiled. "It's been a while. I was wondering why I hadn't seen you around Valanthea lately."
Marselle made a quiet resolve. She would win him over in her own way. She had no intention of being clingy and planned to do it on her terms.
After a night of reflection, Marselle decided she needed to find out more about Donovan's late wife.
She called Zachary and arranged to meet him at a club.
Zachary was free that day, and given her distinguished status, he readily agreed.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Marselle got straight to the point. "I didn't call for anything urgent. I just want to ask about the story between Donovan and Giselle…"
