Brother’s Best Friends Are My Mates novel Chapter 132

Rain

Things were slowly getting back to normal.

Well as normal as things could get when you had a war with ancient dragons nipping at your heels as well as Lia trying to struggle with her growing power.

We were doing our best to be there for our mate. I was trying to be more cheerful than normal, knowing it was annoying Matt to no ends. He kept glaring at me during the day. Colby seemed all right with my cheerful attitude while Jesse was indifferent.

Matt was my friend, but I knew my cheerful attitude could be very annoying.

Right now we were sitting in the living room, just hanging out. It was important for us to have some semblance of normal even when nothing was.

If things were normal I would be on the rugby field playing the game I had grown up with and loved more than anything. To step away from the game I loved sucked but there was no choice.

These ancient dragons were going to be something difficult for us to handle. I was afraid, but at least we weren’t facing this alone!

But normal was definitely something our lives were never going to be again. It was going to be filled with strange and difficult situations I don’t even know how we could get out of.

I sighed, glancing at Lia. “So what did Simone say?”

She smiled. “Simone was telling–

Lia freezes mid-sentence, her eyes glazing over as she grips the couch arm. I stare. Then, without thinking, I reach out and-

Smack

I rub my hand, giving a small pout in Matt’s direction. My hand was stinging and Matt looked like he was ready to smack my hand again if I much as even attempted to poke Lia.

Could he blame me for wanting to poke her? I mean she just froze in mid-speak and looked like she was experiencing some kind of vision that she talked about before. It looked exactly like it did the last time it happened.

Matt slaps my hand away like I’m a misbehaving toddler. “Don’t poke people when they have visions, Rain.” I scowl, shaking my hand. “How was I supposed to know that’s a rule?”

Jesse sighs, arms crossed. “Because it’s common sense?”

Common sense was not my strong point, I thought this had been established already by this point but apparently, my pack still thought I had some level of common sense which made me feel warm inside, to be honest. I liked the idea that they thought I had it.

Colby smirks. “I mean… I kind of wanted to poke her too.”

A grin broke out on my face as I tried not to burst out laughing. Colby knew what I was about and why I was thinking the way I did.

Finally, someone other than Lia seemed to understand me! “See?!” I throw my hands up. “Thank you, Colby!”

Matt glares at both of us. “You’re children.”

I huff. “You don’t know! What if poking her resets the vision? Like turning a computer off and on again?” Colby nods thoughtfully. “Yeah, like a reboot. Maybe we get better vision this time.”

Matt stares at us like he’s reconsidering his entire existence. “You two are the reason warning labels exist.” Lia suddenly mumbles something under her breath. We all snap to attention.

Now the smile is gone from my face. I’m a little more than worried about her, wondering if she is okay. I worry that this vision could be hurting her. I mean, how am I supposed to understand what the hell it means when someone is having a vision?

Jesse leans in slightly. “What’d she says?”

Colby shrugs. “Dunno. Could be ‘save the world’ or ‘buy more milk.’ Hard to tell.” I squint at her lips. “It kind of looked like she said ‘waffles.”‘

Matt groans, rubbing his temples. “She didn’t say waffles, Rain.” “You don’t know that!”

Lia twitches. Another mumble. “Okay, I heard ‘fire,”‘ Jesse says. I gasp. “Fire waffles?”

Matt turns to me, dead inside. “I swear to god.”

Colby snickers. “What if she’s seeing the future and it’s just us setting the kitchen on fire?” “Likely,” Jesse mutters.

Jesse shrugs, a small grin tugging at his lips. “What can I say? I like chaos too.” Lia shoots him a look. “And I’ll be the one cleaning it up.”

I throw my arms up. “Hey, we did try to prevent it. By poking you.”

Lia glares at me, then at Colby. “Next time, if you two poke me again, I’m kicking you out of the group.” I lean in with a dramatic gasp. “You can’t kick us out! We’re the fun ones!”

Matt chuckles under his breath. “And the reason this whole thing is a mess.” No one was asking the one question that I was dying to know the answer too.

What had she seen in her vision? I squirmed, clearing my throat but no one was looking at me. “Guys, are you all going to continue to ignore me?” I asked, pouting.

Lia sighed and looked at me. “What is it Rain?” “What is it you saw in the vision?”

Colby, Matt, and Jesse gave me looks.

“Guys don’t be angry at him. He just wants to know an answer to the question that your all thinking about as well,” Lia said to them.

I smirked. “See you guys? I was right.”

Colby rolled his eyes. “That doesn’t mean you had to be the one to ask it.”

Jesse crossed his arms. “Yeah, maybe we weren’t asking because we didn’t want to push her.” I huffed. “Oh, come on. Lia knows I mean well.”

Lia gave me a tired smile. “I do, Rain.”

Matt leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “So, are you going to tell us?”

Lia hesitated, glancing at each of us. “It wasn’t clear… but I saw shadows, something lurking just out of sight. And I heard a voice. It said, ‘It’s already begun.'”

A chill ran down my spine.
