Brother’s Best Friends Are My Mates novel Chapter 135

Jesse

We left the body behind and kept walking. Because, like always, things were only going to get worse.

Rain kicked a stone off the path. “You know,” he started, dragging out his words, “for once, I’d like to get through one of these without nearly dying or getting blood on my favorite jacket.”

I shot him a glance. “You’re wearing your favorite jacket on a mission?”

“Well, duh. I didn’t plan on being ambushed by rogue vampires.” Rain adjusted his jacket, inspecting a small, now-dried bloodstain. “Not a great look, by the way. And these are my good boots, too.”

“Priorities, huh?” Colby’s voice was flat like he didn’t have the energy for Rain’s antics anymore.

I could feel the tension in the air between us. We had all been through this too many times. The endless battles, the endless near-deaths. And yet, here we were, walking toward the unknown. Again.

I let out a sharp breath, trying to shake the weariness off. “Okay, let’s focus. We need to figure out who’s behind this. We can’t keep getting blindsided.”

“Yeah, we’ve got a fan club,” Rain muttered sarcastically.” Which one of you wants to lead the ‘let’s break into some shady den of evil and confront the mastermind’ talk?”

Colby paused. “You might be onto something.” He turned toward Rain, his expression unreadable. “We might not have a choice but to force the truth out of someone.”

Rain’s eyes widened. “Wait, you mean to force the truth out of them? As in, torture? Because I’m all for a little bit of intimidation, but-“

“Not torture,” Colby interrupted. “But we’ll need leverage. There’s always leverage.” Rain snorted. “You’re all heart, Colby.”

“Leverage gets things done,” Colby shot back, his voice growing colder.

I turned to Colby, narrowing my eyes. “So, what’s our next move? If we’re walking into a trap, we might as well be ready for it.

Colby exhaled, the weight of the decision pressing down on him. “We’ll find the person who hired these vampires. And we’ll make sure they regret it.”

I felt the familiar knot in my stomach. “Right. Just another day in paradise.”

Remember the old ways-the shadows are your allies, your strength, your shield. Move in silence, strike with precision. Leave no trace, no sign that you were ever there. It is the only way to ensure that she is stopped before she can reach her destination.

The rewards for success are great-greater than any of you have dared to imagine. The power sealed within that temple will remain untouched, and you will find yourselves standing among those who rule the coming age. You will wield power unimaginable, control over the forces that shaped this world, and the ability to reshape it as you see fit.

But if you fail, if she slips through your grasp, then know this-there will be no refuge, no sanctuary dark enough to hide you from the consequences. You will share her fate, and I promise you, it will not be merciful. There will be no place where your whispers will go unheard, no shadow dark enough to shield you from the reckoning that awaits.

Go now. Do what must be done. Time is against you, and the gate is closing fast. Your failure is not an option.

The Clan Leader

“Well, fuck,” I muttered, showing the letter to everyone. This went far deeper than any of us imagined.
