Cassian's knuckles whitened around the phone, veins standing out against his skin. As soon as he hung up, his voice rang out, sharp and commanding: "Bennett! Get the car. We're going to the hospital."

He was already on his feet, snatching his suit jacket from the back of his chair as he strode out, urgency in every movement.

Bennett hurried after him, phone pressed to his ear as he quickly contacted the driver.

The Maybach weaved through snarled traffic, barely rolling to a stop before Cassian threw open the door and strode out, impatience radiating from every line of his body. His usually composed, steely face was etched with unmistakable worry.

At the reception desk, the young woman looked up in confusion before recognition dawned and she rushed to greet him, careful and deferential. "Mr. Veyne, what brings you here?"

Is it because Miss Gennifer's here for an inspection? But she hasn't left her office all day…

"I need to know where a woman named Ruby is—she was admitted today. Which department is she in?"

Ruby?

The receptionist quickly checked her computer. Cassian barely waited for her answer before striding away, his pace growing even more urgent.

He left the receptionist scratching her head in bewilderment.

Ruby? Isn't that Mr. Veyne's wife—the one who went to prison a year ago?

Cassian reached the department where Ruby was supposed to be, but slowed when he overheard two nurses whispering in the hallway ahead.

"My god, you should've seen it. The paramedics said there was blood everywhere—bones shattered when they brought her in."

"What? Do they need blood donors? I heard we don't even have enough in the blood bank…"

The nurses stood just outside the department, voices hushed but filled with awe and sympathy as they exchanged glances.
