Gennifer listened to Cameron Lockridge's questioning, her face clouded with confusion.
She'd considered all this before making her decision; as far as she could tell, there was nothing wrong with what she'd done.
She fixed her gaze on Cameron, uncertain what he was going to say next.
"Then let me ask you, Miss Gennifer—if, as you claim, you already had evidence, why didn't you tell Mr. Veyne the moment you sensed something was off? Why wait until after the company's confidential information had already been leaked?"
Cameron's eyes were sharp, his tone relentless, pressing her further with every word.
Cassian, meanwhile, fell silent, his thoughts heavy. He glanced between the two of them, lips pressed in a thin line, allowing Cameron to take the lead.
Gennifer was momentarily rattled by Cameron's forcefulness, but quickly regained her composure and shot back smoothly, "At the time, I just thought it was odd—I had no idea my sister would actually go so far!"
Her eyes darted, masking her calculation with a look of wounded outrage. "How could I have imagined it? Cassian is her husband! And yet she betrayed him—just for the sake of her childhood friend's company! If the leak hadn't happened, I never would've guessed she was handing MorganVeyne & Co.'s secrets over!"
Gennifer rattled off her explanation in one breath, her pale cheeks, drained by fear moments ago, now flushed crimson with indignation.
Her story was airtight, and Cassian's earlier shock began to ebb away.
After all, it was Ruby who'd been in the wrong a year ago.
But she'd already paid the price for her mistake. As long as she steered clear of Morgan in the future, Cassian had decided to let the past stay in the past.
"Is that so?" Cameron let out a quiet, skeptical laugh, snapping Cassian out of his thoughts.
He locked eyes with Gennifer, enunciating each word: "Then tell me—why did you start monitoring Ruby ahead of time?"
Gennifer froze, her limbs going rigid.
"Was it just a coincidence? Or was it planned from the very beginning?"
