Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 397

“Cassian, it’s me, Ruby. You can do whatever you want with me.”

She met Cassian’s eyes, her voice soft and intimate, laced with a hint of seduction.

“Whatever I want?”

Maybe it was the alcohol, but Cassian’s every movement seemed uncharacteristically slow and uncertain.

“Yes, of course.”

Gennifer mimicked Ruby’s gentle tone, jealousy burning in her chest, bitter and hard to swallow.

Then, finally, Cassian moved.

Gennifer’s eyes lit up with anticipation.

With a sudden motion, Cassian grabbed her wrist.

“Ruby, give me another chance, please?”

Gennifer froze, her face draining of color.

Even now, all he wanted was another chance from Ruby?

She couldn’t quite name the emotion twisting in her chest, but humiliation stung worse than anything.

“Fine, I’ll give you a chance. So, should we…”

She forced herself to rally, leaning close and exhaling softly against Cassian’s ear.

Cassian’s gaze grew hazy, and for the first time, a faint flush colored his usually impassive face.

“Bring Mira back to Southgarde Estate. I promise I’ll do everything I can to protect you and the baby.”

He struggled to keep his eyes open, wanting her—wanting Ruby—to see the sincerity there.

But the woman before him was Gennifer.

Her face was ashen, her hand balled into a fist, her frustration palpable.

She stared at the drunken Cassian, swallowed her pride, and abruptly pulled down her dress from her shoulder, revealing pale skin. “Cassian…”

She called his name without thinking, but as soon as he heard it, Cassian seemed to snap out of his stupor. He shoved her away, hard.

Gennifer stumbled back several steps, shock etched across her face.

He still looked drunk, but the air around him had turned icy.

“You… you’re not Ruby. Who are you…”

Cassian’s words were slurred, but his rejection was clear.

Gennifer’s face twisted with anger, though she forced a sultry smile. “Cassian, I am Ruby. I’ve come back.”

“Gennifer.”

He spoke her name slowly, and the temperature in the room seemed to drop, a chill running down Gennifer’s spine.

Outside, Ruby narrowed her eyes in annoyance.

“Who’s out there? What do you want?!”

A moment later, an angry woman’s voice shouted from inside.

Sylas smirked, giving Ruby a conspiratorial wink before lowering his voice. “Ma’am, could you please open the door? There’s a maintenance issue in your suite.”

“There’s nothing wrong with the room! Check it after I leave!”

Gennifer was clearly preoccupied and had no intention of dealing with whoever was outside.

“Stop loitering out there and get lost!”

She snapped impatiently.

Ruby let out a sigh, knocking again. “Ma’am, the facilities are old. There’s a risk of something breaking—or even exploding—at any moment.”

Her voice, though quiet like Sylas’s, was gentle and soothing instead of rough.

The commotion inside went silent. After a moment, Gennifer yanked the door open, exasperated.

She barely had time to look up before Sylas wedged his arm in the doorframe, forcing it wide open with his broad shoulders.

By the time Gennifer realized what was happening and tried to block them, it was too late.

As the two burst into the room, Gennifer’s eyes blazed with fury. “Ruby?! What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
