Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 403

Hanley gave a soft “mm” of acknowledgment, and just like that, both the sound and the luxury car’s exhaust were swept away by the wind.

...

“Out.”

Ruby scrolled through the news on her tablet, shooting a glare at Sylas, who was making a nuisance of himself nearby.

He kept teasing Mira, handing her toys only to snatch them away again, grinning mischievously all the while.

Sylas was still young, sure, but he was in his twenties now—when would he finally grow up?

Sylas didn’t argue with Ruby’s reprimand; he just looked a little hurt, lips pursed in mock protest.

“Only you would dare talk to me like that,” he muttered under his breath.

“What was that?”

He hastily shut up. “I’ll go ask Pamela to get dinner started for you.”

“Mira... Mira!”

Barely had the words left his mouth when Mira, sitting on the couch, piped up in protest, her voice clear and insistent.

Mira was a smart little girl, picking things up quickly. She was not even a year old, but she could already say her own name, crisp and clear.

“Silly me—I’ll make some porridge for our Mira myself,” Sylas said, instantly getting the hint. He reached out and tapped the tip of Mira’s nose with a playful smile.

Mira burst into giggles.

Once Sylas had left, Ruby scooped Mira up and settled her in her lap.

With her mother holding her, Mira quieted down, nestling obediently in Ruby’s arms and peering at the tablet screen, even though she couldn’t possibly understand what she was looking at.

“Da...da…”

Suddenly, Mira’s big, curious eyes lit up. She pointed her little finger at a news article on the screen.

Ruby followed the direction of her finger. There, in the middle of the article, was a surveillance video.

And the “Daddy” Mira was talking about? The man lying on the bed in the footage.

Cassian.

Ruby’s hand froze, her expression going rigid.

She recognized the video instantly—it was the security footage from the hotel, taken just a short while ago.

But why on earth would Cassian allow unedited video of himself, his face exposed, to be leaked like this?

She tapped for more details, and sound filled the air.

“Oh my god, is this real life? Just a few months ago, Gennifer and Mr. Veyne were the most envied couple in town!”

“My guess? Gennifer was just stirring up drama, and Mr. Veyne couldn’t be bothered to respond—until now. She wanted to climb her way to the top, but he finally decided to shut her down.”

“If that’s true, Gennifer is seriously manipulative. I looked up her cases—‘Quinborough’s Top Lawyer’ is just a fancy title. But for her to get this far, she must be good at playing dirty.”

...

Ruby read through the comments, a mix of disbelief and resignation settling over her.

Just then, a flood of notifications popped up on her phone.

#Cassian opens official Twitter account

#Cassian breaks his silence

#Cassian sends a message to ex-wife

One headline after another, each centered on Cassian.

Ruby’s heart skipped a beat when she saw the last one.

She couldn’t resist her curiosity and clicked.

The account was simple—just the name: Cassian.
