Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 440

Sylas was never known for his good temper; in fact, the only person he ever showed endless patience for was Ruby. Now, listening to this hard-won rejection, irritation and barely suppressed anger flashed unmistakably in his eyes.

He fixed Domingo with a cold, mirthless smile. “Anything he can do, I can do too. In fact, I could be a hundred times, a thousand times, more ruthless than him.”

A chill ran through Domingo, as though a heavy stone had come crashing down on his chest, leaving him crushed and breathless.

His legs buckled, and he collapsed onto the floor, his arms and legs sapped of all strength.

Still, even in this state, Domingo stubbornly clenched his jaw, refusing to give in.

Watching the man’s obstinate silence, Bennett could tell that the interrogation had hit a dead end.

“Mr. Cunningham, perhaps you should head home and say your goodbyes to your wife. If there’s any new development, I’ll be sure to let you know.”

He spoke up, meeting Sylas’s fierce glare, though he couldn’t help feeling a twinge of unease.

As expected, Sylas hesitated for a moment.

He reached into his pocket, fingers curling around his phone.

On the way over, the Cunningham family had called again, but he hadn’t answered.

“My words just now apply to all of you,” he said coldly, as if having come to a decision.

Sylas stood, casting a chilly glance around the room before striding out.

The moment the office door closed behind him, he stopped the recording app on his phone.

Looking back, it seemed the information his investigation had uncovered aligned perfectly with his suspicions.

And yet…

Sylas replayed Domingo’s strange reaction in his mind, his brows knitting with unease. There was still something he hadn’t uncovered.

Bennett noticed the tension in Sylas’s face and followed him in silence, careful not to draw unwanted attention.

He accompanied Sylas all the way downstairs. Just as Bennett felt relieved and was about to leave, Sylas called him back.

“I’ll be away from Quinborough for a while. Have my uncle take a closer look into the backgrounds of these people,” Sylas instructed, his voice low and firm.

Bennett nodded immediately.

Ignoring the car Bennett had arranged for him, Sylas simply hailed a cab outside the Veyne & Co. building.

On the ride back to see Ruby, he finally returned the Cunningham family’s call.

The moment the call connected, the voice on the other end barked out orders without preamble. “Your uncle booked you on tonight’s flight. I’ll have someone pick you up.”
