Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 457

Violet listened, her heart brimming with emotion.

Without warning, she flung herself back into Hanley’s arms, as if she were a baby bird returning to its nest. “Hanley—”

It was the same way she’d always called him, ever since she was a child.

Hearing her voice, Hanley felt a rush of heat sweep through his body.

Their eyes met, tender and full of longing. Before long, their affection carried them to the bedroom.

Meanwhile, back at Grayson Manor, Frieda sneezed.

She rubbed her nose and looked up, taking in the emptiness of what was supposed to be “home.”

At first, she hadn’t even realized Hanley had bought this villa just for her—he’d explained later that he wanted to establish himself in Quinborough, so he purchased the place.

Now, Frieda slumped onto the couch, utterly drained, feeling like nothing more than a hollow shell.

She wasn’t sure when it started, but something heavy seemed to press on her chest, leaving her listless and often melancholic. No matter how she tried to trace it back, she couldn’t put her finger on the reason.

“Mom—”

Suddenly, a sweet, girlish voice cut through the silence of the house.

Frieda hauled herself upright just in time to see Gennifer running towards her. “Gennifer?”

A flicker of happiness stirred in her chest, but it was faint, as if every emotion inside her was being held down by some invisible hand.

She felt aimless and hollow, and even as she welcomed Gennifer, the fleeting joy quickly gave way to a strange discomfort she couldn’t explain.

“Are you alright, Mom? Are you feeling sick?”

Gennifer plopped down beside Frieda, her hand reaching out to check her mother’s forehead.

“No! No, I’m fine,” Frieda said quickly, jerking away before Gennifer’s fingers could touch her skin, recoiling as if she’d been shocked.
