Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 477

“Could it be that whoever’s supposed to be in charge on his end has it too easy? No sense of awareness at all.”

Bennett hesitated, but before he could dwell on it, the voice on the other end of the line cut through, cold enough to make his skin prickle. “I’m not talking to you.”

“I’ll send you the license plate. Reach out to your contacts and get me a report. Fast.”

“Understood…”

The call ended abruptly with a sharp click.

“We’ll have a lead in ten minutes, tops.”

Cassian slipped his phone back into his pocket, his gaze fixed intently on Ruby.

“Okay,” Ruby replied absently.

She knew that panicking wouldn’t help. Still, as she sat off to the side, her heart refused to settle. The person in the security footage had gone straight to Asher’s room—no way that was a coincidence.

Why would someone take Asher? What were they after? The questions kept circling in her mind, leaving her tense and agitated.

She rubbed her forehead, trying to ease the tension, when suddenly she felt something cool press gently against her temples.

Two fingers—someone was massaging her temples, slow and careful.

Ruby looked up in surprise and found Landon watching her with a gentle expression, the kind that could chase away any pain or worry—like something out of a fairytale. “You didn’t look well. Feeling any better now?”

His bright blue eyes were like the ocean—deep, enveloping, but steady enough to keep her afloat rather than let her drown.

“Thank you,” Ruby murmured, and was just about to ask him to stop when Landon’s hands slid down to her shoulders, kneading them in a steady rhythm.

Fanny watched Landon’s attentive care, feeling as if the image she’d built of her idol was cracking a little more with each passing second. Then again, if it was Ruby he was doing this for, maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

The pressure of Landon’s hands on her shoulders made Ruby tense.

As he continued, he leaned in and whispered, “Try to relax. You’ve been under a lot of stress lately.”

His voice was soft, clear as a mountain stream, but somehow the words and the gentle breeze that fluttered by left Ruby’s thoughts drifting.

Cassian narrowed his eyes at the pair in the corner.

Just then, Landon looked up and locked eyes with him—making no attempt to hide his gaze.

Their eyes met in midair.

No words were spoken, but the silent clash between them was as fierce as any battle.

Finally, Landon arched an eyebrow and gave Cassian a slight, knowing smile, stoking the jealousy simmering within Cassian until it threatened to overwhelm him.

Those ten minutes Cassian had promised suddenly felt endless.

The phone rang.

“What took you so long? You’ve been working at Veyne & Co. for years and you still haven’t learned to be efficient?”

Bennett had barely answered before Cassian unleashed a flurry of frustration down the line.
