Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 489

“So, are you saying I should be grateful to you?”

Ruby suddenly laughed.

She was already breathtakingly beautiful, like a flower brushed with a hint of crimson ink—delicate and striking at the same time. She made Morgan think of a mural of winter blossoms on a white wall, or a vibrantly colored bird perched on a painted branch.

Morgan swallowed, almost unconsciously, his gaze growing more intense. “Of course.”

“Rue, you’re divorced from Cassian now. With me, here in Quinborough, you don’t have to answer to anyone. No one can frame you anymore.”

His heart was pounding, as if he were inching closer to the dazzling dream he’d held since childhood.

But Ruby’s expression shifted; she frowned.

“Is that so?” She sounded intrigued, propping her chin up with one hand. “Framed… So you do know I was set up a year ago. You said you could clear my name. Tell me, then—who stole Veyne & Co.’s confidential files last year? Was I wrong to suspect you?”

She looked genuinely uncertain.

That moment of hesitation seemed to ignite Morgan’s determination.

“Rue, you really did misjudge me. You thought I was the most likely suspect because I benefited the most after what happened. But I swear, I’m innocent.”

“Then tell me—who isn’t innocent?”

Ruby fixed her gaze on him, searching.

Morgan met her eyes. He could tell she was probing for the truth, but he took a steady breath and said, “Gennifer.”

Ruby’s fingers tightened around her fork.

“Are you sure?”

He nodded, utterly calm, without a hint of guilt. “Yes. Hasn’t Hayley already found the security footage?”
