"This is a factory. We're hiring manual laborers. Are you sure you're in the right place?"
He frowned, clearly skeptical of the man before him.
Victor seemed used to this reaction. He smiled and nodded, then effortlessly hoisted a bag of cement from the ground and tossed it aside.
In the car that had dropped him off, Fanny and Hayley's eyes widened in surprise.
They hadn't expected the seemingly slender Victor to be so strong.
"Since it's your first day, go to Sector One and get used to things."
The guard waved him through.
Management had recently decided to expand the factory and ramp up hiring, so everyone was on high alert. Plus, this candidate seemed decent.
Still…
The guard's eyes swept over Victor's face, and he clicked his tongue inwardly.
With a face like that, he could do anything. Why manual labor?
What a waste.
He shook his head regretfully.
"Sector One? Hey man, could I ask how many sectors there are in this factory? How are they divided? If I wanted to go to Sector Two or Three, what would I need to do?"
Victor leaned in as he spoke, appearing exceptionally polite.
People are visual creatures, even among the same sex. Seeing his earnest attitude, the guard decided not to make things difficult.
"Sector Two is for the long-term workers who came in during the last hiring round. Sector Three is for the veterans who are very experienced. It's easy to get into Two, but Three…"
His gaze sized Victor up from head to toe.
A guy with such delicate skin probably wouldn't last long here, no matter why he came.
"Forget about it."

Victor found the whole thing baffling. He tossed the bucket back at the man's feet dismissively. "Poverty."
The man froze.
"Poverty?"
He finally understood that Victor was explaining why he was at the factory.
But the man was still skeptical, eyeing Victor up and down.
Although his clothes were simple, he had an unusual air about him, completely different from ordinary workers like them.
"Part-timer?"
"Long-term."
As they exchanged words, Victor had already opened his suitcase and started unpacking.
The man finally snapped back to reality.
