“My king, please, don’t do that. My mate is pregnant. It will be hard on her. She will not be able to endure it,” Keith was pleading with the king after he heard what plan Maximus had for his mate. He was dreading the fact that the king had no qualm to use a pregnant woman.

Maximus wanted to use Claire to lure her mother out, knowing she was among the fugitive group and had managed to survive this far.

It would be their reunion after years and from what Maximus learned, Elena loved her daughter so much.

“If you agreed to do this, I will pardon her mother from death sentence. She will be allowed to go out of the jail every once in a month. Isn’t this what you want?” Maximus tilted his head.

Keith had been pleading for mercy for his mate’s mother, because Claire was being very emotional with the pregnancy and wanted her mother there.

Therefore, as her mate, he tried to do everything that he could to make her wish come true, but it was not easy, since Elena was a fugitive and she wouldn’t be able to avoid death sentence, unless…. the king himself, who said so.

For a long moment, Keith didn’t say anything. He was not sure how to respond to such request. In another side, he wanted to save Elena for his mate, but at the same time, he didn’t want to put Claire in danger. It was such a dilemma.

Maximus scoffed. He tilted his head, as he observed his senior warrior. “I know your urgency to protect your mate, I feel the same too. I still have a lot of rage for what your mate had done to mine when they were in their former pack. All of her misery and those stupid rumors that flew around is because you both runaway from the pack and it was my mate, who had to endure the aftermath.”

Keith lowered his head even more, he knew about that, and knowing the king, the retribution from him would be dire.

“If you can’t decide, why don’t we get your mate here, so she can tell us what she wants.”

Maximus then mindlink the warrior to do that, while Keith tried to say something, but he didn’t know what to say. He was not sure whether or not it was a good decision for Claire to be here.

But then, the king was right, if it was the matter related to her, then it would be best if she was the one, who decided, even though Keith knew the result of it.

Not so long after, Claire arrived at the war room, she looked puzzled and heavily pregnant.

She was summoned her instead of the throne room, but when she saw her mate was kneeling down on the floor, her mind immediately thought the worse.

“Keith?!” Claire immediately knelt down next to her mate as well with so much difficulty, and Keith helped

her.

She didn’t know what happened, but she started begging for mercy, since she was scared of the king. If you incited his wrath, there was only one way out of it… and usually it was death.

“Please, my king. I don’t know what happened, but have mercy on my mate.” She was trembling with fear.

“No, it’s okay. I am fine.” Keith tried to console his mate, who was crying her eyes out. She had been very emotional lately. “Listen to the king’s explanation, okay?”

“Huh?” Claire looked at back and forth between her mate and the king, she was even more confused, but she calmed down immediately.

On the other hand, Maximus wouldn’t waste his energy to explain the same thing over to Claire, so he asked Eiten to do that.

The royal gamma was annoyed, because the king should have asked Keith to do the job, but apparently, this was a little revenge from the king because of his disruption earlier.

“Is that… is that true?” Claire asked cautiously. “Will you pardon my mother?”

“I pardon her from death sentence,” Maximus corrected her.

Claire immediately nodded. It was already impossible for her mother to be pardoned from death sentence, but in addition, she would be allowed to go out of the jail every once in a month.

“Yes, I will help in this. I will do whatever you told me to do,” Claire immediately agreed to this. She nodded vigorously. There was nothing more important for her at this moment, but her mother.

But then, Keith made a bold request too. “My king, please allow me to go too, so I can pay close attention to my mate. I will not be able to be at ease if I can’t ensure her safety.”

“All of you will go this early morning,” Maximus said, granted the request.

He glanced at the window, and the sky had turned slightly bright. It was already early in the morning. He had broken his promise to his mate that he would come to bed with her.

“Meeting adjourned until after lunch.”

And with that, Maximus walked out of the war room and went straight to Rania’s bedroom. She was still sleeping, she curled her body into fetal position, because she had a pillow to hug.

Maximus removed the pillow and pulled her closer to him. He kissed her forehead and caressed her back. She moaned in reply, even though she was still sleeping.

However, Maximus had no intention to wake her up, since he was also tired. Holding her like this would be more than enough, knowing he was going to go to a war and he didn’t know for sure when he would return.

He wanted to end the war as soon as possible, but it would be depended on how much the Barlukan would

retaliate.

And then, somehow Maximus’s mind went to Claire’s pregnancy… if only their baby survived…
