Crossing the Border (Rania) novel Chapter 228

Chapter 228

Go with them! Go straight to the north!Ares said hastily. Go straight to alpha Letto! It’s dangerous to go to the palace! Whatever happened, don’t go to the palace, do you understand me!?

Cam nodded quickly.

Good luck, young warrior!Ares patted Cam’s back and he and Deryl immediately went back to the front door, where dozen of shifters had surrounded the place.

Rania grabbed Ares’s hand, her eyes filled with horror, she shook her head, as if telling him not to go. She pulled him and Deryl towards the secret door, so they could go together.

However, Ares shook his head. That’s can’t do, my queen. We need to keep them here. At least, we will buy you some time to let them think you are still inside the house, hiding somewhere. If they find the house is empty, they will search the forest immediately. We will not have time to reach alpha Letto’s pack.

What about you?Karin asked the obvious question. She dreaded the thought of what kind of fate that Ares and Deryl would face.

We don’t have time, they are going to break in, please, my queen, be safe and stay alive.Deryl gave a quick, respectful nod and then regretfully pried his arm from Rania’s grip, Ares did the same thing.

Ares gave Rania an apology look and said to Karin. Don’t worry about us. We will be fine. Go. Keep the queen safe.” He patted Karin’s back as well before he followed Deryl.

Rania was torn. She wanted to grab Ares and Deryl again, but they already left.

We need to go now,Cam reminded and urged them to enter the secret tunnel.

Leaving with no other choice, Rania could only go with Karin and Cam, she entered the dimly lit tunnel and run in the long corridor that looked like a maze.

Do you know where we are going, right?Karin asked with worry, she held Rania’s hand tightly. Her face contorted into a silent panic. This place looks the same for me.

Yes, Ares had told me before. It will be fine.Cam jogged along the corridor. He couldn’t run faster than this because Karin and Rania wouldn’t be able to keep up, after all, they were wearing dress, it was hard for them to move, more so in this dark

room.

Rania held Karin’s hand tightly too. She tried to look around her, but just like what Karin said; this place looked the same.

She wondered if Cam really knew where they were going, or they just ran in circle.

But thankfully, after around ten minutes, they finally saw the light that came from the other end of the tunnel.

There! The exit! Hurry!Cam hastened his pace.

Rania and Karin were breathing raggedly to follow him, but they didn’t complain, because they were well aware of the dire of their situation, time is the essence.

Once they were out, they were at the opposite direction of the house they lived in in the past few weeks.

We have to follow this path for around four hours,Cam explained, he looked at Karin, as if asking him to memorize all of the details that he said.

Just in case, something happened to him, and he wouldn’t be able to make it, then the two of them could find their way out of here without him.

Cam then moved a big rock, where he found a backpack and put it on his shoulder, on the side pocket there was a bottle of water, which he handed over to Rania and Karin.

Here drink this, we will go shortly.

Karin gave the bottle so Rania would drink first, and then she drank it before he handed back to Cam, but the young warrior didn’t drink it at all. He put it back on the side pocket and told them that they were going now.

Rania felt the pain on her belly, but she said nothing. She didn’t want to make things even worse when it was already this

bad.

Are you, okay?Karin asked. She was holding Rania’s hand, so she knew almost immediately if there was something happened to her, or there was change in her body.

Rania shook her head and then nodded. I am fine. Let’s go.

They jogged in the forest terrain, sometime it was too slippery for Rania and she almost fell a few times, but thankfully Karin held her.

Meanwhile, Cam was very vigilant, he walked a step ahead of them, as he scanned their surroundings. He looked very tensed.

This was his first mission after he became warrior, but it was such a hard assignment, especially now when their lives and deaths were on the line.

Halfway to alpha Letto’s pack, suddenly Cam raised his hand to tell them to stop walking, he made a gesture for them to lower their bodies.

Rania felt her breath caught in her throat, as she and Karin crouched down under the tall grasses around them that hid them well.

Because of the smell of the earth after rain, it could cover their scents, therefore, Cam chose rather muddy ground for them to travel, it would throw their enemy off if there was someone trailed them.

What is it?Karin asked in a very low voice. She was scared, but she wanted to know what Cam had sensed. She was not a shifter, so she was also vulnerable and she didn’t have a good strong sense like Cam.

Meanwhile, all the people already knew that Rania was wolfless, so her senses were not that great either.

There are a few things that are moving together.Cam narrowed his eyes.

What? The enemy found us here?

Cam shook his head. I am not sure. Stay low.

And a few minutes later, they saw what actually set Cam’s alarm off, and who had been following them deep into the forest.
