Crossing the Border (Rania) novel Chapter 36

Once she was inside the bedroom, Rania threw herself on the bed, she punched the pillow in frustration because of how angry she was.

She imagined it was Maximus, but of course, she could only keep that in her imagination only, since there was no way, she would be able to do it for real. She would be buried six feet underground if she dared to even think to harm him.

Still, she was very exasperated.

That man believed what other people said, and based on her experience, no matter what Rania said, it wouldn’t matter, since he already chose what to believe.

Trying to explain herself would only make it look bad for her.

Yet, there was this stifle feeling in her chest, it felt like there was a brick that pressed her down, but she couldn’t get rid of it. She was trying not to cry, but tears kept streaming down her face.

Therefore, when Kean came with two omegas to clean up the mess inside the room and the bathroom, Rania pulled the blanket to cover her face, and pretended to be asleep.

If they were surprised by what they were seeing, they didn’t say anything, and cleaned it up as fast as they could, and then left.

Later, Kean came to bring her food, and then left when she saw Rania was still in the same position.

Maximus could smell her scent faintly from inside his bedroom, since their room was next to each other, and it mirrored hers.

He stared at the papers in his hand. Read them again and again. There was a complicated feeling that flickered in his electric blue eyes when he read the last paper that Rania wrote to him, and her face flashed in his mind.

The pain in her eyes, and the way she held back her tears looked very genuine, but he couldn’t bring himself to believe her.

Later on, he didn’t approach Rania for three days straight, which put his mood in the worse way possible. Not even report about the war could brighten up his temper.

They managed to capture one of the three big cities of the Barlukan kingdom. It was a big victory, something that they had to celebrate, but Maximus was not in the mood for that.

He told Declan to send the money for the celebration for the warriors in the frontline. They deserved that, but the king himself didn’t hold any banquet within the palace.

The elders didn’t say anything about it, since they had been subdued ever since Maximus ascended the

throne.

“Go, go and meet her, I don’t care what you are going to do, but go and see her, you are insufferable,” Declan said. He couldn’t handle the king anymore. He was lashing out at anyone, who even breathe wrong in his

presence.

“Shut up!” Maximus roared angrily, at his royal beta. He just dismissed, all the higher ranks people within the palace, who report to him in the early morning meeting.

The meeting was cut short, because Maximus couldn’t handle to hear them yapping and complaining about this and that.

“You clearly want her, you brought her here, but you don’t want to claim her, and even make it official, even though all the people already knew that she is your mate.” Declan shook his head. He was exasperated now. “What actually do you want?”

Maximus used to know what he wanted, he always had an end goal for everything, but with Rania, it was different. It felt like he didn’t even know what he wanted. He didn’t even know how to act with her.

Her feet swayed, because of how weak she was. Aside from not eating properly, she had drained her strength by crying and punching the pillow, and now she her vision was blurry.

It was a great deal for her to be like this, since she used to be starved.

And when she was about to collapse, someone caught her before she fell, and Rania didn’t need to see him to know that it was Maximus. What else did he want?

“Go away…” Rania said, pushing him weakly. The king didn’t budge at all. “Go away…” She became even more desperate to get him awa from her, yet Maximus was unfazed.

And when Rania wanted to talk again, she couldn’t help it, but vomit instead. It was not like she had anything left inside her stomach to spill out, she was heaving, and panting. Her throat was very sore, and she tasted the bitterness of her bile.

Maximus widened his eyes, his instinct told him to shove her aside, but when he saw the pain look on her face, he groaned.

“Fuck it! Should you vomit on me?!”

Rania wanted to tell him that she had asked him to move away, but he didn’t listen, yet those were only in her mind, she wouldn’t talk to him like that.

At first, Ranía thought the king would curse at her, punch her and then left, but to her surprised, he carried lifted her up, and hoisted her, so he could take her to the bathroom quickly. He opened the toilet bowl, and let Rania to regurgitate there.

She was thankful for that, and it took her a while before she stopped, but when she turned around to look at the king, he already took off his top.

“What?! I am not going to wear that vomit shirt! Don’t think too much!” Maximus snapped at her.
