Wiona didn’t bother to check Jace’s reaction. She just turned on her heel and strode out of the hospital, bodyguards close at her sides.
People lingered in the hallway, curious eyes following her as she left. Everyone had heard some wild story about catching someone in the act, but no one really knew what had gone down in Grandma Grace’s room. All anyone knew was that something big was happening with the Salisburys. The shouting from inside had echoed down the halls, but the words were lost.
Now the whispers were everywhere. “Something major must be happening with the Salisburys, right?”
“They act so high and mighty, but look at them. Disgusting behind closed doors.”
Jace’s eyes turned icy as he glared at the group of gossipers.
“What did you just say?” His voice was sharp.
One of them fired back, “It’s true, isn’t it? Is hooking up in your mother’s hospital room the only dirty secret your family has, Mr. Salisbury?”
“Everyone’s seen it online. The news about you and Kellen is everywhere.”
“And from the way your family was just screaming at each other, I bet there’s even more dirt to come.”
Before anyone could react, Jace stormed over and grabbed the guy by the collar. “Say another word, and I’ll make sure you lose everything you have.”
He shoved the man to the ground, then whipped out his phone and marched out of the hospital.
“Julian, get PR on this now. Wipe those stories from every site. I don’t want this spreading.”
Julian sounded grim. “It’s too late, sir. The story about you and Kellen getting caught by Wiona at the hospital is already trending everywhere.”
“I’ll try to pull it down, but this isn’t going away.”
Jace just stood there, stunned, his phone slipping from his hand and hitting the ground with a sharp crack.
Wiona...
If this was all part of her plan to get a divorce, she really knew how to play the game.
The next morning, at eight fifty-five, Wiona was already outside the civil affairs office. She was early, but Jace wasn’t there yet. She didn’t mind, though. She waited, calm and unhurried.
Right before nine, Jace finally pulled up. He wore a black suit and sunglasses, and he’d driven himself. He stopped at the steps, looking right at her. Wiona’s yellow coat was bright as sunshine, her makeup on point. The second he saw her, his face fell.
He walked up to her. “Wiona, I’ll admit it, you’re impressive. I give up, okay? Are you done with this drama yet?”
“If you’re finished, let’s just go home.” He reached out for her hand.
Wiona pulled her hand back, chin high. “Jace, what is wrong with you?”
