Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 31

Dr. Cano was practically sobbing into the phone. “Mrs. Salisbury, you’ve really messed up my life.”

“When can I finally come home? Seriously, when?” he wailed.

Beside him, the young nurse sounded even more desperate. “I don’t want to be stuck in Antarctica. I just want to go home. Dr. Cano, please, ask Mrs. Salisbury for help.”

Dr. Cano hadn’t even started to speak when Wiona cut in. “Tell me, what do you think a man like Mr. Sullivan does to people who try to mess with him?”

“For the disaster you’ve caused, prison would be the easy way out,” she said, her voice icy. “Or are you really hoping to spend the rest of your life behind bars? Out here, at least you still have your freedom. Lay low for a while and you might be able to come back. I can help you get a new name, a new identity, even a new city, and you could start over. But if you go to jail, it’s game over. Are you sure you want to come back, Dr. Cano?”

Just thinking about spending the rest of his life in prison made Dr. Cano shudder. He gritted his teeth. “No. I… I won’t come back.”

Wiona’s voice was calm, but there was steel behind it. “Once you’re gone, there’s no turning back. Don’t even think about running back here and betraying me halfway through. If you do, I’ll be the one taking you to court, not just Mr. Sullivan.”

The idea of being dragged into court from both sides made Dr. Cano’s head spin.

He wiped his tears, trying to sound braver than he felt. “Don’t worry. I’ve done everything you asked. As soon as I heard there was trouble, I destroyed all the files and called you. No one at the hospital will find anything.”

“It better stay that way,” Wiona replied. “I just wired three million to your account. That should be enough for you two to get by over there. But listen, with Mr. Sullivan’s resources, you know he could find you if he really tried. Your top priority is getting new fake identities and moving to the place I told you about. I have a friend who runs a hospital there. He’ll take you in.”

When the call ended, Wiona finally felt her nerves start to settle. At least she’d acted fast. Dr. Cano and the nurse were gone. If she hadn’t gotten them out, she didn’t even want to imagine what could have happened.

Her hand drifted to her belly.

Her babies… They were hers and hers alone.

That night, Jace didn’t come looking for her, which meant Wiona actually got a decent night’s sleep for once.

The next morning, she went downstairs and found Jace already up, sipping his coffee. As soon as he saw her, he stood and pulled out a chair for her, all polite and attentive.
