Breakfast felt tense. Something was off. Annette still hadn’t come downstairs. Word was, she’d had way too much to drink last night and hadn’t sobered up yet. Conrad told Jason to go check on her and maybe bring her some medicine.
Then there was Alice. She was glued to Wiona, practically climbing into her lap. The poor girl had a rough time yesterday. She’d been stuck in her room all night, not allowed to come out, and now she was clinging to Wiona, sobbing. “Wiona, Alice saw the fireworks and all the pretty lights, but Alice wasn’t allowed to leave the room. They were all so mean to Alice! Wiona, you have to teach them a lesson for me. They’re so bad!”
Wiona’s heart ached for her. She gently pinched Alice’s soft cheek. “Alright, I’ll go talk to them for you, okay?”
Honestly, everyone was surprised by how well-behaved Alice had been. She hadn’t caused a single scene. Except for the mess with Sophie’s family, the party went so smoothly it almost felt weird. Usually, whenever the Sullivan family hosted an event, Alice would always find a way to create some unforgettable chaos. But last night, Annette was worried Alice might get overwhelmed by all the guests, so she decided to keep her entertained in her room. They even brought in four professional nannies to keep her company. No wonder Alice was so upset this morning.
After finally calming Alice down, Wiona left the house with Conrad. Once Annette heard Wiona had gone out, she finally dragged herself out of bed, her face full of worry. She let out a long sigh. “I don’t even know how to deal with this mess. What am I supposed to do? Sophie was always my favorite, and now Wiona is Conrad’s whole world. Yesterday… I think we really broke Sophie’s heart.”
She was still lost in her thoughts when Jason knocked on the door. “Ma’am, I heard you have a headache. Mr. Sullivan asked me to check on you.”
Annette actually felt a little better. At least Conrad was finally showing he cared.

Wiona and Conrad arrived at the same café as last time. As soon as Wiona stepped out of the car, Conrad finally let go of her hand, which had gone completely numb. “Be good, and stay safe.” He glanced at the person inside the café, squeezed Wiona’s cheek, left Peter with her, and walked away.
Wiona shook out her hand, trying to get the feeling back, and hurried inside.
“Madison!”
She spotted Madison right away. Even though it had only been two days, Madison looked exhausted, like she hadn’t slept at all. Wiona rushed over, and Madison immediately hugged her tight.
“Thank you, Wiona.”
Wiona had texted Walker, and together he and Madison had quietly arranged for Madison to slip out and meet her. Madison’s mood was at rock bottom. Wiona didn’t ask anything, just rubbed her back gently. “I’m here now. Whatever’s going on, we’ll figure it out together. You’re not alone.”
