Wiona hadn’t set foot in the Morgan house for more than a year. After she moved out, they never even called her for the holidays. She never thought she’d be invited back, and by the person she owed the biggest apology to.
“I… I’ll think about it,” Wiona muttered, and hung up fast.
Her mind was still spinning when her phone rang again. Another unknown number. She hit decline right away, but a text popped up immediately after.
[Wiona, are you done acting crazy yet? The whole family’s been trying everything to make you happy. Isn’t that enough for you? Grandma doesn’t even want to see me now. Are you happy? This is all because of you. I never thought you could be so heartless. What did Kellen ever do to you? If you’re not happy, I’ll stop seeing her, okay? Just tell me what you want. I’ll give you anything, alright?]
Reading his self-pitying rant, Wiona felt even more disgusted. She couldn’t believe she’d ever been so blind to how shameless, fake, and unbelievably arrogant he was.
She blocked his number without hesitation. What she didn’t realize was that her location had already been found out.
She made her way down to the parking garage, but before she could even open her car, someone grabbed her from behind, something pressed over her nose and mouth, and her body went weak. The world faded out.
Jace turned her face toward him. Looking at her—this woman who made him so furious he wanted to crush something—he clenched his jaw, but held himself back. He picked Wiona up and carried her to the car, then called Alona.
“Mom, I’ve got her. Meet me at Azure Estate.”
He pulled on a baseball cap, slipped on a mask, and drove her out of the garage.
Not long after, Remy and Korey showed up at her apartment, but she was already gone.
When Wiona woke up, it was pitch black outside. She pushed herself up in bed, patting around for her phone, but everything was gone. She reached for the light switch, but before she found it, a low voice drifted out of the darkness.
“What are you looking for?”
Wiona jumped, heart pounding. “What the—? Jace? Are you out of your mind? You kidnapped me!”
Jace stood from a shadowy chair, his figure slowly coming into view as he walked closer. He stopped by the bed, leaned down, and brushed his hand against her cheek. “How else was I supposed to get you back? Wiona, you’ve been impossible lately. You made me search everywhere for you. Even that maid, Molly, she was following your orders, right? She’s slippery, like a rabbit. My guys had to trail her all over town just to get to you. But in the end, I found you, didn’t I, babe?”
He leaned in, so close she could feel his warm breath at her ear, and a chill ran through her.
