Divorced Dazzling and Desired novel Chapter 20

**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**

**Chapter 20**

Renee couldn’t help but let out a scoff, a sound laced with disbelief. It struck her as profoundly ironic.

Good? What exactly was so commendable about this man standing before her?

With an air of smug satisfaction, Adam declared, “Of course I have to pamper my wife!” His voice was buoyant, as if he were announcing a grand victory. He turned on his heel, striding out of the room with a lightness that only deepened Renee’s frustration.

As soon as the nurse exited the private ward, Renee seized her phone, her heart racing as she dialed the number of the police officer assigned to her case.

“Officer Jeremy, hi. Any updates on the investigation?” she inquired, her voice steady despite the storm of anxiety brewing within her.

“We interrogated Harry,” Jeremy replied, his tone professional yet sympathetic. “He stated that after diving with you, a few other individuals showed up, one of whom he claims is your friend. You didn’t say anything and just swam off with them. Beyond that, he insists he knows nothing else.”

Renee’s heart sank. “W-What?” she stammered, disbelief flooding her senses. “That person isn’t my friend! I don’t even know him! Isn’t he from the diving club?”

“No. All the instructors from the club that day have alibis,” Jeremy clarified, his voice firm yet gentle.

Renee furrowed her brow, a whirlwind of thoughts racing through her mind. “But he was wearing the exact same gear as the one found in the diving club. Can’t you check the rental records? Just go through the list one by one?”

“Ms. Whitley, I completely understand your frustration,” Jeremy replied, his tone soothing, “but all the equipment and uniforms on Seraph Island are standardized across all diving clubs. The island sees between 20,000 to 30,000 tourists daily, and during peak season, that number can soar to 60,000. Trying to investigate every single one of them is like searching for a needle in a haystack.” He sighed, a sound heavy with the weight of the situation. “Rest assured, we will keep looking. If anything comes up, we’ll inform you right away.”

Renee felt the reality of his words sink in like a stone. This was just a polite way of saying that the investigation had hit a dead end and was unlikely to yield any results.

Even with the case officially opened, it felt painfully clear that it would likely lead to nowhere.

With a heavy heart, she ended the call and leaned back against the headboard of her bed, her gaze drifting toward the window. A wave of helplessness washed over her, enveloping her in a suffocating embrace.
