Divorced Dazzling and Desired novel Chapter 19

**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 19**

“I’m fine. The doctor said I can be discharged tomorrow.”

Renee’s voice was steady, yet the tremor in her fingers betrayed her. She stared down at the tissue she clutched tightly in her palm, noting how it had absorbed the moisture from her skin, a testament to her earlier panic. The nightmare that had invaded her sleep lingered, its shadows still clinging to her like a heavy fog.

Adam, ever perceptive, noticed the way her body seemed to shrink into itself, the tension radiating from her like a palpable force. Without a moment’s hesitation, he sprang to his feet and hurried to pour her a glass of warm water.

“Here, drink this,” he said softly, handing her the glass. “It’ll help calm your nerves.” He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, his touch both reassuring and warm. “It’s over now, so try not to dwell on it too much.”

At the sound of his words, Renee’s gaze snapped up to meet his. In the past, every glance she shared with Adam had been infused with an ocean of love, a deep connection that seemed to transcend words.

But now, as she looked at him, she saw the same familiar face, the same bright, expressive eyes—but something had shifted. Instead of the warmth of affection, there was an unsettling emptiness. Indifference had replaced the love she once felt, and it cut deeper than any physical wound.

Their eyes locked, a silent battle of emotions raging between them.

Renee’s lips, pale and trembling, finally formed a faint smile, though it didn’t reach her eyes. She accepted the glass of water and took a small sip, as if trying to wash away the bitterness that had settled in her heart. “Alright. Whatever you say,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Adam felt a jolt of surprise at the fleeting darkness he had glimpsed in her eyes. But as quickly as it had appeared, it vanished, replaced by her fragile smile. He settled next to her, instinctively wrapping his arm around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.

“Honey, since you’re feeling better now, do you think you could maybe apologize to Kayla tomorrow?” he suggested, his tone light but hopeful.

As the words left his lips, Adam felt the atmosphere shift. Renee’s body stiffened almost imperceptibly, a wave of icy hostility washing over her.

He watched her silently, still sipping her water, and couldn’t help but scoff inwardly.

Was he being overly sensitive?

Renee had always been the one to understand him the most. She was rational, poised, and compassionate—never one to hold onto grudges or act out of jealousy.

“Kayla is cherished by her family. The Spencers dote on her like she’s the crown jewel. Even the elders in their family speak to her with such tenderness. They never raise their voices. But today, you slapped her multiple times and left a mark on her forehead. She has a bruise, and her face is swollen. If you don’t apologize, how do you expect me to explain this to the Spencers?”

Adam spoke with a patience that bordered on desperation, hoping Renee would grasp the weight of the situation and perhaps even acknowledge her part in it.
