**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 27**
Alison was resolute; there was no way she would ask her brother for assistance. Just the mere thought of Jasper’s furious outburst and the possibility of being unceremoniously booted from the company sent chills down her spine, making her break into a cold sweat. The memories of his harsh words lingered in her mind like a dark cloud, overshadowing any hope she had for a smooth resolution.
Renee, sensing the tension in the air, frowned thoughtfully. “I remember hearing that their branch office was recently moved to Harborview City. The boss is from the Zeller family in the capital, if I’m not mistaken. I believe they might start shifting their focus to this area soon.”
A mischievous glint appeared in her eyes as she continued, “Hey, isn’t that your family name too? Maybe you have some insider knowledge?”
Alison’s heart raced at the mention of the Zeller name. She forced a light laugh, though it felt strained. “Hehe… Is that so? Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing.” The idea of a connection both excited and terrified her. What if she did know them? What if they were just as intimidating as Jasper?
Renee, ever the supportive friend, noticed the hesitation in Alison’s demeanor. She gently patted her shoulder, offering reassurance. “Leave it to me. I’ll reach out to the CEO of Everest Group. The stakes might be high, but the project is solid. I’m willing to give it a shot.”
“Really?” Alison’s eyes sparkled with hope, and she couldn’t help but throw her arms around Renee, planting a grateful kiss on her cheek. “Babe, you’re the best! I’ll be waiting eagerly for the good news.”
This was precisely the lifeline Alison had been yearning for. If the project could somehow land in front of Jasper, then at least he would be the one to reject it. The thought of him directing his ire at Renee instead of her was a comforting balm.
That was the beauty of friendship—having someone to take the heat when it became too much to bear.
Renee swiftly obtained the contact number for Everest Group’s CEO’s secretary from Alison and, with a determined spirit, managed to schedule a meeting for two o’clock that very afternoon.
Meanwhile, in the sleek offices of Everest Group, in the CEO’s office…
Luke stood before Jasper’s imposing desk, ready to deliver his report.
“Sir, Ms. Zeller has scheduled a meeting this afternoon. She wishes to discuss a potential collaboration.”
Jasper paused mid-signature, his pen hovering over the document. “Did you agree to it?”
The sharpness in his tone made Luke’s heart race. A bead of sweat trickled down his back. “Uh, well, your mother did ask me to look after Ms. Zeller whenever possible.”
Jasper continued signing, his expression unreadable.
“You agreed to it, so you handle it,” he said curtly, tossing the file toward Luke with a flick of his wrist. “Now get out!”
Luke stood there, momentarily frozen, his mind racing.
‘Help!’
He had already confirmed the meeting with Alison’s company, and now he was left with a sinking feeling in his stomach. What would happen if Alison showed up and Jasper flat-out refused to meet her? She would undoubtedly unleash her fury on him!
