**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 28**
Luke had initially envisioned a scenario where, after Alison ascended the stairs, he could easily maneuver the situation. Even if Jasper was reluctant to see her, Luke could simply feign ignorance, as if he were powerless to stop her from visiting.
However, what unfolded was entirely unexpected. The person who appeared before him was none other than Renee.
A wave of uncertainty washed over him. What was he supposed to do now?
“Ms. Whitley, if you would kindly follow me,” Luke said, gesturing for her to accompany him. He guided her toward the lounge, his mind racing with the implications of this unexpected meeting. “Please, have a seat. Unfortunately, our boss is currently preoccupied with a pressing matter.” He then signaled to his secretary for two cups of coffee, hoping to ease the tension in the air, before excusing himself to find Jasper.
Knock, knock, knock.
With a firm rap on the door, Luke entered Jasper’s office, the air thick with unspoken tension.
“Boss, I wanted to inform you that someone from Ms. Zeller’s company has arrived,” he announced, keeping his tone steady despite the unease bubbling within him.
He believed it was crucial to keep Jasper in the loop about the situation.
Jasper stood poised by the expansive window that stretched from floor to ceiling, cradling a steaming cup of coffee in his hand. Without bothering to look back, he replied curtly, “I said I’m not seeing anyone.”
Luke felt a familiar knot tighten in his stomach. Jasper had always preferred to keep his professional life and personal affairs distinctly separate. It didn’t matter that his sister was involved; he wouldn’t budge.
“Uhh…” Luke hesitated, weighing his words carefully. Finally, he resolved to lay all his cards on the table. “Actually, Ms. Zeller didn’t come herself. It’s the Head of the Project Division from her company who is here.”
Silence enveloped the room, thick and oppressive. Jasper’s rigid posture spoke volumes—he had no intention of entertaining any visitors today.
With a surge of determination, Luke pressed on, “It’s Ms. Renee Whitley.”
This time, Jasper turned, his brows knitting together in mild surprise. “Renee?”
“Yes,” Luke confirmed with a nod. “She’s currently in the lounge, waiting for you.”
A flicker of curiosity sparked in Jasper’s eyes, but it was fleeting. After a brief pause, he shrugged it off. “If she wants to wait, let her.” With that, he returned to his desk, burying himself in paperwork once more.
