**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 34**
Adam leaned in closer to Renee, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “You know, I’ve been noticing something peculiar. Mr. Zeller seems to be looking at you differently these days.”
His arm casually slipped around her waist, fingers grazing her skin in a way that sent a shiver through her. With a light squeeze, he added, “Come on, darling. Your beauty is my pride and joy. How about you use a little of that charm tonight, huh?”
Lately, Adam’s actions had upended everything Renee thought she understood about their relationship. But at that moment, his words struck her like a sudden winter chill, as if a bucket of ice water had been thrown over her. The coldness seeped into her very bones, leaving her trembling in its wake.
Her lashes fluttered in disbelief, her entire face a canvas of shock. “W-what did you just say? I must have misheard you.”
Adam, seemingly unfazed, playfully pinched her cheek, flashing a grin that suggested he believed it was all just harmless banter.
Then, with a cheeky wink, he continued, “Oh, don’t get all flustered now. It’s just my gut instinct talking. I can tell Mr. Zeller’s got his eye on you. Just look at you. You’re my wife—gorgeous, stunning, and that cool, untouchable vibe you exude? No man could resist it.”
To Adam, a woman’s beauty was not merely an attribute; it was a badge of honor for him as a man.
Setting aside all else, Renee’s natural allure was enough to make Adam walk with his head held high, proud to have her as his partner. Every time he caught other men stealing glances at her, a smug satisfaction would swell within him, a silent affirmation of his good fortune.
“Just go over and chat with him a little. Be friendly, share a drink or two during dinner. That’s all I’m asking,” he urged, his tone softening as he gazed down at her with a feigned tenderness that felt almost rehearsed. “You’re my wife. Don’t worry. I’d never ask you to do anything more than that. I’m not that kind of guy.”
The very thought of Adam sharing her with another man was anathema to him—he could never fathom such a betrayal!
Yet tonight felt different. Jasper was not just any man; he was the heir to the illustrious Zeller family fortune. If it weren’t for that, Adam would never dream of suggesting something like this.
A chill settled deep in Renee’s chest, an unsettling sensation that contrasted starkly with the summer warmth surrounding them. It was as if all the blood in her veins had turned to ice.
