**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 33**
At that moment, Luke strolled over, a casual grin on his face as he extended an open bottle of water toward Jasper. “Here you go, boss,” he said, his tone light.
Jasper, with an effortless grace, removed the cigarette from his lips, his fingers moving with a fluidity that made even the mundane act of accepting the bottle seem like an art form. He took a sip, the cool water gliding down his throat, and not a single word passed his lips. There was something undeniably sophisticated about him, a certain refinement that made even the simplest actions appear dignified.
For a brief moment, the room fell into a hushed silence, as if everyone was collectively holding their breath. Eyes darted around, and it didn’t take long for the realization to settle in. A few exchanged glances, their expressions shifting toward Kayla, who was clearly making a spectacle of herself. The truth was glaringly obvious: Jasper had no interest in her, yet she seemed blissfully unaware of the truth that was so evident to everyone else.
It was hardly surprising, really. Women had always flocked to Jasper, enamored by his charm and allure. The unspoken consensus among the gathered crowd was that no man desired a woman who appeared desperate. Those were the thoughts that swirled in the air, but no one dared to voice them aloud, opting instead for a collective silence.
Kayla’s smile began to falter, her facade cracking as her expression grew darker. Her fingers clenched tightly around the water bottle, knuckles turning pale as she fought to maintain her composure. Anyone observing could see the embarrassment radiating off her, a palpable tension that hung in the air.
Julian, the eldest son of the Spencer family, was a man accustomed to admiration and privilege, treated like royalty in Harbor City. He had always been held in high regard, but this situation felt foreign to him. Kayla, too, was no stranger to the spotlight. Yet, the man they were dealing with was not just any ordinary individual. This was Jasper Zeller—the golden child of the Zeller family, a name synonymous with wealth and influence in the capital. Even if Julian felt a twinge of irritation, he had no choice but to swallow his pride and accept the reality of the situation.
“I actually am a little thirsty…” Julian began to say, his voice trailing off as he attempted to assert himself. But before he could finish his thought, a hand reached out, snatching the water bottle right from Kayla’s grasp.
“I’m thirsty too. Thanks, Kayla,” Adam said, flashing a disarming smile that seemed to lighten the mood instantly.
He twisted off the cap with ease, taking several deep gulps before returning the bottle to her. “Appreciate it,” he added nonchalantly, as if the moment had been entirely ordinary.
Just like that, the tension in the room evaporated, replaced by a sense of camaraderie. The atmosphere shifted, and the faces of those present softened as they resumed their interactions, acting as though nothing had transpired.
Renee observed the scene unfold before her, a quiet thought flickering through her mind like a candle in the dark. If she had been the one to bring Jasper the water earlier, would she have found herself in Kayla’s position, standing there, feeling humiliated?
Most likely.
Would Adam have come to her aid the way he had for Kayla?
