Renee couldn’t suppress a laugh, a light, melodic sound that seemed to bounce off the walls of the bustling room.

What a ridiculous situation!

She took another sip of her juice, the sweet tang brightening her mood, and her eyes wandered to Kayla, who was practically glued to Jasper’s side, fawning over him like a flower turning toward the sun. A wave of amusement washed over her, a bemused smile creeping onto her lips.

“Well, should I leave?” she teased, her voice playful yet edged with curiosity.

The effect of her words was immediate, leaving Adam momentarily speechless. He froze, his expression a mixture of irritation and surprise, as if he had just been caught off guard in a game of chess. After a brief pause, he finally replied, his tone betraying his annoyance, “Forget it. You’re already here. Come on, I’ll introduce you to the CEO of Everest Group.”

“Okay.” Renee shrugged, not feeling particularly inclined to argue. She stood up, her heart racing slightly as she followed him through the crowd, the atmosphere crackling with energy.

As they approached Jasper, Adam’s face lit up with an enthusiastic smile. “Mr. Zeller, this is my wife, Renee Whitley,” he announced, his voice booming with pride.

Jasper, with an air of nonchalance, peeled off his white gloves, his gaze darting between the two of them. A faint, almost teasing smile played on his lips. “She’s your wife? Huh. I thought Kayla was your wife. Guess I was mistaken,” he remarked, his tone laced with a hint of mischief.

Luke, standing nearby, nearly choked on his drink, his eyes widening in disbelief. ‘Wow, boss. You’re really something!’ he thought, unable to keep the admiration from his voice.

Kayla’s heart nearly stopped in her chest. ‘Oh my God, he remembered my name?!’ she thought, a rush of excitement flooding her system. They had exchanged only the briefest of introductions earlier, yet here he was, recalling her name as if it were the most important detail in the world. Her cheeks flushed a deep pink, and she found herself unable to tear her gaze away from him.

‘Wait, does this mean he’s interested in me? Was he cold to me earlier because he thought I was Adam’s wife? But now that he knows the truth, will he reach out to me?’ The thoughts raced through her mind, her heart fluttering with hope as she practically glowed in his presence.

Julian, observing the scene from a distance, felt a wave of confusion wash over him. ‘People say Mr. Zeller is cold and hard to approach, but honestly, it doesn’t seem like it,’ he mused, trying to reconcile the rumors with the reality unfolding before him.

Renee raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. ‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ she wondered, feeling a mix of intrigue and annoyance.
