She was exhausted but relieved after her discharge.

As they stepped inside, they found Cora waiting for them. Her expression was far from pleased. Lucian looked surprised. “Mom, you’re here. How come?”

His mom’s gaze was icy. “My son is having a wedding, why wouldn’t I be around? Or am I not invited?”

His smile was apologetic. “No, of course, Mom. You’re invited. I’m sorry I haven’t officially introduced Katie to you and the pack yet. This is Katie, my mate, my future wife, and the future owner of the pack.”

Cora’s face turned away, her voice dripping with disapproval. “I’ve been seeing her all over the news. She’s practically a celebrity now.”

Her eyes snapped back to Lucian, her tone critical. “Out of all the girls in the whole world, why do you have to pick somebody like Katie, who has so much baggage and drama? You literally almost got into a huge mess today and got yourself injured all because of this woman.”

Katie’s eyes met Cora’s her expression calm despite the tension.

Lucian’s arm wrapped around her waist, a possessive gesture.

“Mom, Katie is my choice. And I won’t apologize for it.”

“I won’t accept Katie as the Luna of the pack. You need to find someone else.”

Lucian’s jaw clenched. “There’s nobody else better than Katie. She’s my true mate, and I’ve been looking for her my whole life.”

Cora’s eyes narrowed. “You weren’t exactly looking for a mate with so many problems. Reconsider, Lucian.”

“I won’t reconsider. Mom, please, you have to accept Katie.”

Katie’s voice was soft. “I don’t want to cause any harm or trouble. I’m sorry I have so much trouble alongside me.”

Cora frowned, looking sideways. “Please excuse me,” she said, before turning and walking away

to her room.

Later, Lucian entered Katie’s room, his expression apologetic. “I’ve spoken with my mom. She’ll come around,” he said, sitting beside her.

Katie’s smile was understanding. “Okay, it’s fine. I still understand.”

Lucian’s eyes searched hers, his gaze filled with reassurance. “I’ll make sure she accepts you, Katie. You’re my mate, and I won’t let anyone come between us.”

Katie was doing last–minute shopping for the wedding, picking up the last few things she

needed.

The wedding was tomorrow, and she wanted everything to be perfect.

As she walked through the crowded halls, she suddenly saw Dakota appearing at the shop.

Dakota’s eyes locked onto Katie’s, and she strode over, her face twisted in anger. “You think you’re going to have a happy life with your supposed husband?” she sneered. “Think again.” Katie raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you the one who stole my husband? You’re literally pregnan with his child right now.”

She scoffed. That doesn’t matter. It’s not my fault that two men are pining over me. And Katie you’re not going to steal anything from me anymore, like you’ve been doing since we were kids.” Katie’s laughter was cold. “I’ve never stolen anything from you. It’s been the other way around Get away, get out of my way.”

“I’m not done talking to you,” she said, grabbing Katie’s hand.

Katie struggled to free herself, but Dakota’s grip was tight.

In a sudden movement, Dakota pushed herself off Katie, losing her balance, and fell down the stairs.

Dakota’s friend, Linda, who had been lingering nearby, rushed over, shouting. “Dakota, are yo okay?”

Linda rushed over to Dakota’s side, her face twisted in anger. “You’re so vicious, Katie! Wh would you push her off the stairs like that?”

The crowd gathered around, their voices murmuring in shock.

Katie held up her hands, defensive. “I’m sorry, I didn’t push her! She was the one struggling wit

Linda’s eyes blazed with fury. “You’re such a bloody liar! I saw everything.” She quickly pulled ou her phone and called the ambulance. “Now that Dakota is unconscious, if anything happens t ner or the baby, it’s going to be on your head, Katie.”

Katie’s eyes widened in shock as she watched the doctors come to take Dakota away.

She felt a wave of panic wash over her, and she quickly turned and charged back home.

When she arrived, she rushed to Lucian’s side, telling him about the incident.

He listened attentively. Then held her shoulder affectionately.
