We arrived at the grave in time to see a man scurrying off. Judging from his side profile, I realized that the man was none other than Justin.
I suddenly recalled how Justin would come with me to visit my mother's grave on her death anniversary. However, when he later had an affair with Felicia, he stopped tagging along on those visits.
Justin had been kicked out of the Geller family after the Geller Group was bought out. He came looking for me a few days ago, but I kept him firmly outside the door and hadn't seen him since.
I didn't think he'd come to leave flowers at my mother's grave on her death anniversary.
My gaze fell on the bouquet of white lilies lying before my mother's grave, and I casually swept it off.
I laid the fresh bouquet I'd bought in its place.
A filthy man like Justin didn't get to besmirch my mother's grave.
I stared at the picture of the gentle-looking woman on the tombstone, and tears uncontrollably spilled down my cheeks. I crouched and wrapped my arms around the tombstone, then told my mom everything that had happened in the last few years.
William had Shanna in his arms as he stayed quietly by my side. After I'd cried my heart out, he mirrored my gesture and crouched before my mother's grave, silently offering a prayer for her soul.
He reassured her, "Don't worry. I promise I'll take good care of Camille."
With that, he helped me to my feet and wiped the tears from my face. We went home hand in hand.
I heard quarreling voices upon leaving the cemetery. Turning toward the commotion, I saw a woman screeching at a man, her child in tow.
"She's married, Justin! What's the point of pretending otherwise when you already have a wife and daughter? You must take care of me and Francine!"
"If you hadn't tricked me all those years ago, Felicia, I'd never have slept with you, let alone lose Camille because of that mongrel you conceived!"
Felicia let out a high-pitched scream as she lunged for Justin. "How dare you call our daughter a mongrel, Justin? You inhuman scum!"
Justin kicked her out of the way the next second, though. "You're no saint yourself, Felicia! We don't even know if that kid is mine! I'm staying here for good so I can take care of Camille's mother for her. Don't come here again!"
I didn't hear the rest of their argument, for William had already led me into the car. I sighed as I called the groundskeeper of the cemetery and told him I'd relocate my mother's ashes in a few days.
After all, I didn't want to have to run into a loathsome creature like Justin every time I came to visit my mother's grave.
I was so busy reaching out to the relevant parties to have my mother's ashes relocated to another plot that I didn't even notice William going awfully silent beside me.
It wasn't until I'd tucked Shanna in that night that William carried me into the room and asked disgruntledly, "Did you change your mind?"
"Huh?" I didn't know what he meant by that.
