Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 569

A light blush crept up Emmy’s cheeks as she shot James a half-annoyed, half-embarrassed look.

“He just can’t help himself, always has to worry about everything.”

She said it with a sigh, but honestly, her heart felt so warm inside.

She’d always thought she was already a world-class worrier. It was her first pregnancy, after all. She was careful about every little thing, Googled everything she ate or used, terrified that one wrong step could hurt the baby.

But James somehow managed to be even more anxious than she was.

When they walked out of the doctor’s office, Emmy couldn’t help but laugh at how nervous and uptight he looked.

She glanced over at him and teased, “If you’re really so worried about me and your kid, maybe you should try not to wear me out so much.”

James turned toward her, a mischievous light flickering in his dark eyes.

“The doctor said you can start exercising a little after four months,” he replied, trying to sound serious.

He added, “And actually, pregnant women’s physical needs get higher. If you don’t take care of that, it can lead to mood swings and even depression.”

He leaned in close, his breath warm against her ear.

“I’m just doing this for you.”

Emmy gaped at him, totally floored by his shamelessness.

“Where did you even read that? What kind of nonsense is that supposed to be?”

“Sounds to me like you’re just trying to get your own way,” she shot back.

James just laughed, low and deep. He slid an arm around Emmy’s waist, balancing her purse and a whole stack of medical reports in his other hand.

“So why don’t we just say we’re helping each other out?” His voice dropped, soft and teasing.

Emmy just rolled her eyes and decided not to argue. Honestly, this man was like a walking hormone crossed with a cartoon villain.

She pushed his face away with a laugh and changed the subject. “Are we heading home?”

James didn’t answer right away.

By now they’d reached the parking lot. He opened the car door for her, carefully shielding her head as she got in. Once she was settled, he tucked their things in the back, then slipped into the driver’s seat and buckled up.

He was sure of his own feelings. He wanted a real home, wanted to be loved, wanted to love. Emmy cooking for him, caring when he was hurt, worrying when he was tired—he’d completely fallen for her. He loved her, truly, as her husband.

But Emmy was different. She’d grown up with love all around her, treated like a princess. She probably couldn’t even imagine how desperately he craved love.

Their relationship had moved at lightning speed. He was busy all the time, barely around, and they’d skipped all the normal stuff—dating, falling in love, building memories. They just jumped straight into marriage and starting a family.

How could that kind of shaky start ever hold up for the long haul?

James wanted a family that would last forever. But Emmy, still so young, probably wanted the kind of crazy, passionate romance she’d only seen in movies.

He realized he needed to give them both the chance they never got.

When Emmy still looked lost in thought, James finally turned to her and said softly,

“What we’re missing is the love story part.”

He looked right at her, his eyes serious.

“Emmy, will you let me date you all over again?”
