He knew exactly who James was talking about. His little brother had never once called that man “Father.”
“You want Dad to go out to the countryside? Now? In this freezing weather?” Tyler’s eyebrows drew together, but after a moment, it was like a lightbulb went off. He relaxed, the corners of his mouth even lifting in approval.
“That’s actually a pretty clever idea.”
“People say he’s out of touch, that he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. They say his charity is just for show. So, send him to the toughest places, let him really live with the locals, eat what they eat, sleep where they sleep.”
“When the mudslinging starts, it won’t just hit him. It’ll hit every poor family in the country. That’s way better than any PR statement.”
He couldn’t help but admire it. Only someone who’d survived the special forces could come up with something this ruthless and thorough. Most people wouldn’t even dare to think of it.
“But will he actually do it?” Tyler looked over. “Why don’t you talk to him?”
Their father owed James more than anyone. If his little brother asked, Dad would probably just agree, no questions asked. If Tyler did it, who knew what would happen.
James shot him a cold look, his eyes as unreadable as ever.
“If he doesn’t want to, then whatever. When his rivals finally kick him out, I’ll set off fireworks myself.”
With that, he slipped his phone into his pocket and walked straight out.
Tyler just stared at the ceiling, lost for words.
So stubborn.
In the end, he gave in, pulled out his phone, and dialed their father’s number.
…
James headed straight for the cafeteria, ordered whatever was on the menu, and sat down with his tray. He snapped a picture of his lunch and sent it to Emmy.
Her phone lit up right away. She opened the picture and saw a tray overflowing with rice and three huge servings of meat—kung pao chicken, braised pork belly, and black pepper beef.
That was classic James.
Emmy smirked but didn’t reply. She dug back into her own lunch and kept talking with Sylvia about the Nelson Corporation mess.
Sylvia was sharp—she came up with all sorts of ideas, and Emmy found herself inspired.
