Abriella’s smile faded right away, and a crease formed between her brows.
“He came. Every day, actually. But I never saw him.”
Her tone turned cool. “Will told me. When I was getting punished by my family, you went to Steve first.”
“You did the right thing, honestly. With Steve’s status, my parents wouldn’t dare give him a hard time. But what did he do…”
Abriella let out a sigh and shook her head. “Whatever. I made it through, that’s what matters.”
“I’ve known Steve for years. I know exactly what kind of person he is. He always weighs the pros and cons before doing anything. He’s always playing the long game, like some mastermind.”
“This time… it finally made me give up on him for good.”
She looked straight at Emmy. Her gaze was clear and steady.
“I want the kind of love that’s real, with nothing else mixed in. If you like someone, you just like them. If you don’t, you don’t.”
“With Will, it’s easy. We like each other, no games, no drama. Just simple and honest.”
Emmy nodded along.
After sitting in the hospital room for a while, she started to feel a bit warm.
She had already taken her coat off, but her scarf was still wrapped tight around her neck.
Without thinking, she reached up and tugged it a little, trying to catch her breath.
Before she could say anything else, Abriella suddenly gasped.
“Emmy! What happened to your neck? Are you having an allergic reaction?”
Abriella immediately pulled Emmy’s scarf away.
Underneath, just above Emmy’s collarbone and along the side of her neck, there were a bunch of vivid red marks.
They stood out, scattered like strawberries left on fresh snow, or like badges from some wild battle.
For a moment, the room went completely silent.
Abriella’s face went from stunned to puzzled, then to a sudden look of realization.
Finally, she stared at Emmy in total disbelief.
“Wait… you two were really having a good time, huh?”
Emmy’s cheeks turned bright red. She yanked her scarf back up, wrapping it tightly around her neck.
“Stop it! Don’t say that!”
Abriella burst out laughing. The sudden movement made her wince, but she couldn’t stop.
