Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 710

When Shelly saw the message pop up on her tablet, she almost choked from anger right there and then.

She had never been so humiliated in her entire life.

They wanted her, the matriarch of the Nelson family, to bow her head and apologize to two women from a broken, down-on-their-luck family. The thought alone made her sick, even more than if she’d been forced to swallow a fly.

But what choice did she have these past few days? The women who used to chase after her, always eager to flatter and please, now all knew she was being punished and kept at home. They even held a tea party without her, and she could only imagine the nasty things they were saying behind her back.

To make it worse, her funds and trusts were frozen. Without her usual money, she couldn’t even host a decent tea party at the old house, let alone strike back. Dinner used to mean over a dozen dishes, now it was down to just eight. Every bit of her current misery was a reminder of how much she had enjoyed her former glory.

This family was huge, but her husband cared only for his career and barely paid her any attention. Her son was everything to her, the one thing holding up her position and identity. If she hadn’t given birth to James, she never would have had such an easy life with the Nelsons, or assets worth hundreds of times more than her sisters-in-law.

But now, the moment James cut off her money, she was nothing but a figurehead, a matriarch in name only. The humiliation of falling so far was almost enough to drive her crazy.

So she swallowed her pride.

She made up an excuse, lowered her head, and forced herself to go through with this apology.

And what did she get in return? That ungrateful mother and daughter weren’t moved in the slightest, and even her own son said she wasn’t being “sincere” enough.

Shelly clenched her teeth so hard she thought they might crack, but she still had to force a warm, gentle smile onto her face. Pushing down the fury boiling inside, she softened her voice.

“Teresa… or, my dear in-law… tell me, what do you need from me to forgive what I’ve done?”

Teresa’s lips pressed tightly together, and she looked instinctively at her daughter.

Emmy sat cross-legged on the bed, her face calm, as still and deep as a quiet lake. When she spoke, her voice was cool, every word crisp and clear.

“First, whether you were testing us or trying to humiliate us, the damage is done. We’re not going to forgive you.”

“Second, the child I’m carrying is mine. I won’t hand them over to anyone else, ever. Mrs. Nelson, I hope you can accept that.”

“Third, if you’re only apologizing because you were forced to, don’t bother. We don’t need that kind of fake kindness.”

In her last life, she had spent seven years hoping, begging, but her wish had never come true. In this life, nobody was going to take her child away from her.

Emmy’s words pushed Shelly right over the edge. The fake warmth and apology on her face crumbled in an instant, and the contempt and anger in her eyes almost seemed to burn through the screen.

She opened her mouth as if to snap back, but the screen suddenly went black.

The call was cut off.

The butler paused, then bowed deeply to Emmy and Teresa.

“Sorry to have disturbed you, Madam, Teresa. Please remember to rest and take care of yourselves.”

He left the room quietly, and that little flash of red at the door disappeared with him.

For a moment, Emmy felt like a big empty space had opened up in her heart.
