Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 711

A heavy feeling crept up on her, impossible to shake off, like the ocean at high tide, slow but relentless, swallowing her whole.

She knew exactly why James wouldn’t come in and face her.

The Nelson family looked down on her. They looked down on the entire Drennon family, too. To them, she was nothing, and they only cared about the baby she carried.

James, their precious son, whether he really cared about her or not, just couldn’t face her after all that had happened. She understood it too well, and that made everything hurt even more.

All the emotions she’d been holding back—shame, resentment, the sting of humiliation—rose up in her throat. Her stomach twisted until she felt like she might throw up.

Emmy forced herself to stay calm, but tears still slipped from the corners of her eyes. She sat there a long time, waiting for the nausea to pass. When it finally did, her mind felt sharper, clearer.

“Mom, did you give all the jewelry back to Mrs. Nelson?”

Teresa hesitated. “I had Marian pack everything up. I was waiting for the right moment to return it. Don’t worry about it, honey. I’ll call her now.”

She made the call, but no one answered. She called again, still nothing.

“She might be busy. I’ll try again later.”

It wasn’t until evening that Marian finally called back.

Teresa was about to step outside so Emmy could rest, but Emmy opened her eyes.

“Put it on speaker, Mom.”

Teresa nodded and hit the button.

Marian’s voice came through, thick with tears and fear.

“Ma’am… I… I just got out of the police station…”

Teresa’s face changed instantly. “What happened? Marian, slow down, tell me everything.”

“This afternoon, the Nelson family’s butler came to pick up the jewelry. I counted every last piece, nothing was missing. But he insisted a diamond brooch was gone, accused me of stealing it, and called the police. They took me away!”

The next morning, Emmy asked Teresa to go home.

“Mom, you should head back.”

“We can’t just let this jewelry thing slide. Check the security cameras at home. We need to know if Mrs. Nelson’s people made a mistake, or if… someone on our side really did something wrong.”

Teresa nodded, gave her a few gentle reminders, and left.

Not long after, Abriella breezed in, carrying an insulated lunch container.

“Guess what? Your favorite lunch, hand-delivered with love!”

Emmy looked at her, half amused, half helpless. “Don’t you have anything better to do? You don’t have to come by every day, you know.”

Abriella flopped into a chair. “Nope, I’m officially unemployed right now. What, you sick of me already?”
