Last night, Abriella barely slept. She spent the whole time looking after Will, making sure he was okay after he got hurt. She hadn't even had a chance to start digging into the fire when Steve showed up, already one step ahead of her.

He handed her a stack of evidence. For once, his usually mischievous gaze was serious. “I couldn’t help you last time, when you wanted me to look into the Nelson family’s people. Let this be me making it up to you.”

Abriella flipped through the report. Every single clue led to Mandy.

She didn’t hesitate. She called the cops.

But when she arrived at her parents’ hospital room with the police, what she walked into felt almost cruel.

Mandy was at Mrs. Sullivan’s bedside, crying like her world had ended, clutching Mrs. Sullivan’s hand and telling her how scared she was of losing them. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan were completely clueless. They looked at Mandy, the girl they’d raised for over twenty years, and could only try to comfort her.

The police stepped forward and showed Mandy the arrest warrant. “Ms. Mandy, you’re a suspect in the arson that happened at the Sullivan villa yesterday. Please come with us.”

He read out the accomplice’s statement. “You told him to break the gas valve in the kitchen, causing a leak. You also poured gasoline in several hidden spots around the villa. One spark, and the whole place would go up in flames. No one would have a chance to escape.”

Steve’s voice was icy as he chimed in. “Uncle, Auntie, her motive’s obvious. If you both died in that fire, by law, all the family’s money and company shares would go to her, the only ‘daughter’ left. For money, she was ready to kill you.”

Each word cut deep. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan looked at Mandy, shock and pain written all over their faces. Mrs. Sullivan’s lips trembled. “Mandy… is this true?”

“No! It wasn’t me! I didn’t do it!” Mandy shrieked. “They’re all lying, trying to frame me!”

The police officer didn’t bother arguing. He held up a pair of handcuffs.

The second Mandy saw them, she unraveled. She knew if those cuffs went on, her life was over.

Suddenly, she spun around and bolted for the balcony, grabbing the railing. “Don’t come any closer! If you do, I’ll jump!”

Mr. Sullivan’s voice shook as he looked at the girl he’d loved and protected for so long. “We never treated you badly. We gave you everything, even more than we gave Abriella. Why would you do this to us?”

Mandy let out a bitter laugh. Her eyes were wild, her face twisted with anger and hurt. “You say you treated me well?”
