Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 748

Emmy frowned, glancing at Lorraine by her side. She lowered her voice. “You go knock.”

Lorraine barely had a chance to step forward before the gate swung open from inside.

The man standing there made Emmy’s breath catch. He wore a simple black outfit that somehow made him look even taller and leaner. His hair looked freshly washed, still a little damp and falling over his forehead. His jaw was clean-shaven, sharp and striking. He looked so fresh and handsome, nothing like the scruffy, exhausted man with bloodshot eyes she’d seen on the video call.

They hadn’t even been apart that long, just a few days really. But seeing him so suddenly like this, Emmy’s heart couldn’t help but tremble a little. Longing hit her in a rush, making her nose sting and her eyes prickle. She could even catch a faint whiff of his mint body wash, mixed with that familiar scent that was just him, the one she’d missed so much.

She was still lost in that moment when Tyler’s voice floated over from somewhere in the courtyard. “Is that my sister-in-law?”

Emmy snapped right back to herself, burying all those swirling feelings under a layer of cool calm. She drew her brows together, her voice chilly. “What are you doing here?”

James’s dark eyes locked on her, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he answered in a rough voice. “Grandma told us to come.”

From inside the house, Grandma’s cheerful voice rang out. “Is that my good granddaughter-in-law? Hurry up! James, are you just going to stand there like a statue? Don’t block the door, bring her in!”

James reached out, trying to take her hand. His fingers were warm, almost brushing her skin.

Emmy stepped aside automatically, slipping past him and heading straight inside. James’s hand hung awkwardly in the air for a second, his fingers curling in before he let his arm drop and quietly moved aside.

As Emmy followed the path into the courtyard, she spotted Tyler under the shade of a tree, sitting in his wheelchair. He was dressed in a tailored suit, a thin blanket draped over his knees. He watched them with gentle eyes, but there was something sharp there too, like he was quietly picking apart the tension in the air.

When he caught her eye, he nodded politely.

Emmy gathered herself and gave him a polite, distant greeting. “Mr. Nelson.”

Just then, someone came out from the garden.
