Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 750

Grandma’s eyes softened as she looked at Emmy’s rounded belly.

She lifted her wrinkled hand, pausing in the air like she wanted to touch the bump, but after a moment she pulled her hand back. It was almost like she was worried that, with one foot already in the grave, she might somehow bring bad luck to the twins growing inside.

Her eyes turned misty and her voice was quiet. “I don’t even know if this old body will hold out long enough to see them born…”

“You’ll definitely be there,” Emmy said quickly. “Grandma, your health is only going to get better.”

Grandma smiled, a knowing, gentle smile that spoke of a lifetime of ups and downs. “I know my own body best. My mind is slipping a little more every day. There’ll be fewer and fewer moments where I’m as clear as I am today.” She gave Emmy’s hand another reassuring pat. “But don’t you worry. Even if I lose my mind... even if I’m gone, the people I leave behind will do everything they can to protect you.”

They ended up chatting for quite a while.

A soft knock sounded at the door, and the caregiver’s voice floated in. “Ma’am, the young master has finished making dumplings. You can come out and eat now.”

“Let’s go,” Grandma said, reaching for Emmy’s hand. “You need to eat, sweetheart. You’re carrying precious cargo. No more losing weight, you need to keep up your strength.”

They left the bedroom and headed out to the sunroom in the courtyard, where the temperature was always just right.

In the center of the sunroom, the small dining table was already set with four steaming plates of dumplings. The dumplings were plump and white, steam curling up from them, and the smell of fresh greens and pork filled the air. It was enough to make anyone’s stomach growl.

Emmy was a little surprised. They hadn’t been talking for all that long, and yet James had managed to pick wild greens, wash and chop them, make the filling, roll out the dough, wrap the dumplings, and even cook them.

Grandma looked impressed, too. She walked over to the table and said, her voice steady, “Well, I guess I’ll have to see just how good your cooking is today.”

James paused, caught off guard. He looked up, dark eyes locking on his grandmother, and his voice was tight with emotion. “Grandma, you...?”

“I’m perfectly fine,” Grandma sniffed. “No one’s going to trick this old woman anymore.”

Tyler wheeled himself over, grinning. “Grandma, I helped wrap some of these. See if you can pick out which ones are mine.”

Grandma didn’t even glance at the plates. “The ugliest ones in the bunch are definitely yours.”
