Kai's POV
The golden light vanished, and I saw her stumble. She swayed, her eyes fluttering closed as she started to fall.
I crossed the room in a single motion and caught her just before she hit the floor, scooping her into my arms. She was shockingly light, so fragile for someone who held so much power. Her head lolled against my shoulder, her breath shallow but steady against my neck.
She had poured every last ounce of herself into saving my grandfather. For me.
Dr. Albright took a hesitant step forward. "Alpha… is she…?"
"She's exhausted," I cut him off, my voice a low growl. "She saved him. Now she is my only priority."
"We should get her on a gurney," Albright suggested, trying to regain some professional control.
"No one touches her but me," I said. I turned to the two nurses who were peeking in from the hallway, their faces pale and frozen.
"Didn't you hear me before?" I snapped, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I said get her a private room. The best VIP suite you have. I want it ready five minutes ago."
One of the nurses stammered, "Y-yes, Alpha, right away. We just need to prep it…"
My patience snapped. "Then you'd better be fast," I interrupted, my tone lethal. "I want a full diagnostic panel run on her the second she's in that bed. I want two of my Alpha Guards posted outside her door. And you," I pinned Albright with a glare, "are going to personally oversee her care. If she so much as gets a paper cut, I will burn this hospital to the ground. Do you understand me?"
Dr. Albright just nodded, his face pale and sweating, unable to form words. The nurses scrambled away, their shoes squeaking in their haste.
