Dumped Omega? Now Their Alpha King Begs at My Feet novel Chapter 55

Valerie's POV

The formal invitation arrived an hour later, just as he said it would. It was delivered by a Crimson Fang guard who looked like he could kill a man with his thumb.

I read the heavy cardstock, the words professional and cold. A strategic consultation regarding the future of our allied packs.

It was a complete and utter lie. We both knew it. The real invitation, the real reason for this meeting, was in the text exchange on my comm unit.

He wasn't just summoning me for a date. He was baiting me with knowledge I couldn't get anywhere else.

My first instinct was still to refuse. To protect the independence I had just found. I didn't want to get caught in his web, no matter how tempting the bait was.

I found my father in the garden, tending to his roses. I explained the situation, showing him the texts and the formal invitation.

"I don't trust him," I said, crossing my arms. "This is a manipulation."

My father, Richard, didn't look surprised. He smiled faintly. "Of course it's a manipulation, Valerie. He's an Alpha used to getting what he wants. The question is, what do you want?"

He stopped trimming a rose bush and turned to me. His expression was kind, but his eyes were sharp.

"He's not offering you jewels or empty titles," my father said. "He's offering you knowledge about your own power. He's treating you like a scholar, not a prize."

He paused, his gaze turning serious for a moment. "And don't forget the prophecy, my dear. Our bloodlines are meant to unite for a reason. Perhaps this is the first step."
