113 The Confrontation
Zara didn’t hold back, delivering one last, devastating blow with fierce determination.
“The reason you refuse to accept that Tatiana is gone is because when she died, the person who loved you the most in this entire world died alongside her! A cold-hearted monster like you will never be loved by anyone!”
The words echoed sharply in the room.
The person who loved you most in this world is dead.
Someone like you will never be loved.
It struck him like a bolt of lightning, leaving a ringing buzz in his ears.
He was rarely seen losing his composure, but now the pen slipped from his fingers and clattered onto the floor as his eyes lost their sharp focus.
The truth he had been desperately searching for, the feeling he couldn’t quite place, finally emerged in front of him.
Noticing this rare crack in his armor, Zara’s lips curled with a flicker of satisfaction as she spat out her venom. “You should see the expression on your face right now. It’s pathetic. I hope that in her next life, Tatiana never crosses paths with you again. She was such a good soul—someone who deserved to be treasured, not have her pure love trampled underfoot by a man like you.”
With those cutting words, Zara turned away, her footsteps echoing as she moved toward the door. She paused after a few steps and glanced back one last time. “Anyone she loved would have been incredibly lucky. She was warm, kind, and when she gave her heart, she did so without ever counting the cost. She was far too good to have suffered like this. If only you had never existed, she wouldn’t have died in such misery.”
Her voice cracked on the final word, caught in a sob.
Zara pushed the door open and stepped outside.
Almost immediately, she nearly collided with a woman standing there—a cleaner dressed in a simple uniform. The sudden closeness made Zara freeze, a strange wave of familiarity washing over her.
But as she looked closer at the woman’s hesitant posture and the worn uniform, she shook off the thought.
I must be losing my mind. Why would I think this is Tatiana?
I miss her too much. It’s just a trick of my heart.
“I’m sorry, did I bump into you?” Zara asked softly.
The woman lowered her eyes and shook her head.
Seeing that she was unharmed, Zara hurried away, her heart still heavy.
Back inside the office, an oppressive silence filled the air, thick and suffocating.
Jasper sat frozen in his chair, his gaze empty and unfocused.
Zara’s words echoed relentlessly in his mind—she was such a good person; anyone she loved was lucky, everyone but you.
Suddenly, he sprang up and stormed out of the room, as if he was searching for someone he couldn’t afford to lose again.
Tatiana had nowhere to hide. His eyes locked onto her instantly, sharp and predatory like a wild animal stalking its prey.
Her scalp tingled with fear as she instinctively stepped backward. “Do you need me to clean?” she asked, voice trembling.
But Jasper advanced steadily, closing the distance until he forced her into the small utility room. With a hard slam, he shut the door behind them, cutting off any escape.
Panic surged through Tatiana, but she fought to keep calm. “Don’t come any closer.”
His burning gaze never wavered as he closed in, trapping her against the cold wall, leaving no room for retreat.
The cold weight of his presence enveloped her, his eyes like iron chains pinning her in place. One hand pressed firmly against the wall beside her, sealing her in.
He spoke abruptly, his voice low and urgent. “If I weren’t Jasper, would you still protect me the same way?”
If his last name wasn’t Jiang, if he wasn’t the heir to the Jackson family fortune, if he wasn’t the powerful CEO of Jackson Corp, if he didn’t have all this wealth and status—would she still love him like she did in the beginning?
