Chapter 137: An Uncontrollable Situation
Minnie’s heart pounded wildly as panic overtook her completely. “Dad, no, I… I…” she stammered, desperate to explain herself, but her mind was a blank. What excuse could she possibly offer? Should she confess that she had planned to frame Cindy’s mother? If those words escaped her lips, she was certain her grandfather would cast her out of the house without hesitation.
Yet, remaining silent felt impossible—how could she face her parents without any explanation?
What am I supposed to do? How do I get out of this? she thought frantically, her breath quickening.
Out of the corner of her eye, Minnie noticed Bianca standing quietly to one side, her expression unreadable. A surge of anger flared within Minnie. If it hadn’t been for Bianca’s idea, she wouldn’t have ended up in this mess, implicating herself so deeply.
Bianca avoided Minnie’s gaze, lowering her head with a guilty air.
With no other option, Minnie clung to a desperate lie. “I don’t know… He dragged me in, and I kept screaming for help…” Her voice trembled, hoping her father would believe her.
Jasper’s eyes narrowed sharply, clearly skeptical. The man in question had been brought in moments ago, and he was now convulsing sporadically, his condition worsening by the second.
An experienced bodyguard stepped forward, checking the man’s vitals. “Boss, he’s taken some kind of psychoactive drug. He’s unlikely to regain consciousness anytime soon.”
This situation was a disaster.
To have something like this happen during a Jackson family dinner—especially one of such significance—was a blow that could shatter the family’s reputation if the news leaked outside.
More than that, it struck a deeply personal nerve for Jasper. He had once been the target of a similar calculated attack, and the memory made his hatred burn hotter.
“Get him to the hospital immediately for a full examination. And pull all surveillance footage from tonight. I want to know exactly how this drug got here. Every single person who attended this event will be investigated thoroughly!” Jasper’s voice was cold and commanding.
“Yes, sir!” came the prompt reply.
Minnie’s panic deepened. How had the situation escalated so far beyond her control? She bit her lip nervously and asked, “I’m fine now… Do you really need to investigate further?”
Jasper’s gaze was icy, showing no concern for her wellbeing. “This isn’t about you. No controlled substances are allowed here under any circumstances.”
Soon, the hotel’s entire surveillance system was accessed and reviewed, while every guest present was detained for questioning. The atmosphere was tense; no one could escape the investigation.
Minnie felt a wave of terror wash over her.
Bianca shared in that fear.
Neither of them had imagined Jasper would respond with such severity.
As they waited, Tatiana arrived, slightly late.
Upon seeing her, Jasper grabbed her wrist firmly, his eyes narrowing dangerously. “Where have you been?” he demanded.
His tone was sharp, almost like an interrogation.
Tatiana yanked her hand free, her face composed and indifferent. “I wasn’t feeling well, so I went to a booth to rest for a bit. What’s the problem?”
Jasper’s suspicion lingered. “Rest?”
“Yeah, right over there.” She gestured toward the booth area, where a waiter happened to confirm her story. “She was leaning against a chair and resting for some time.”
