82 Rumors and Consequences
Minnie’s confidence faltered. “Grandpa, I didn’t say anything…”
“Speak!” the old man commanded sharply. “What is going on!”
Terrified, Minnie spilled everything she knew. “Everyone’s saying Tatiana was fooling around, got pregnant by someone else, and tried to pass it off on Jasper, making a fool of you! It’s all over town! The stories are incredibly detailed!” Minnie then recounted the vicious rumors swirling through their social circle. The news had spread. Everyone was talking, waiting to see the Jackson family humiliated.
Her grandpa’s face went white, then gray. He swayed on his feet, asking tremulously, “Jasper… is this true?”
Jasper pressed his lips together, silent.
His silence was the only answer needed.
His grandpa’s eyes rolled back, and he collapsed.
“Grandpa!”
The ambulance waiting outside was needed after all. Her grandpa was rushed to the hospital. The shock and anger had nearly caused a stroke.
The entire Jackson family was alerted. Barry and Marilyn hurried to the hospital. After hearing what had happened, Marilyn asked Jasper in disbelief, “Jasper, is what Minnie said true?”
Jasper rubbed his temples, his eyes dark. “Yes.”
Marilyn’s hands trembled, her face etched with disbelief. “How could Tatiana do such a thing! The disgrace!”
Barry was furious. “Outrageous! What will people say about the Jackson family! We have to drag her back! How dare she elope!”
Compared to Barry and Marilyn’s fury, Jasper remained unnervingly quiet.
When his grandpa regained consciousness, he asked to see Jasper alone. The old man looked as if he had aged ten years overnight. His eyes were clouded, his voice heavy. “Jasper, go find the dear girl and bring her back.”
“There’s no need.”
“Go find her! cough, cough…” He dissolved into a fit of coughing, unable to stop.

Seeing his grandpa’s frail state, Jasper’s hatred for Tatiana deepened.
“She’s not that kind of person. I trust her. There must be a misunderstanding… cough… Go find her.”
“We’re divorced.”
Those two words cut off any further argument. Jasper’s expression was cold. He tucked the blanket around his grandpa and said quietly, “This marriage only happened because of you. It should have ended long ago. Now that you know the truth, Tatiana has nothing more to do with me.”
His grandpa closed his eyes, then let out a weary sigh, murmuring, “You’ll regret this, Jasper.”
“I never regret anything.”
The day the divorce cooling–off period ended, Tatiana still hadn’t appeared.
Jasper wasn’t surprised. If she thought she could drag out the divorce, she was naive. To the Jackson family, a piece of paper meant nothing. True status was granted by his acknowledgment.
“Release the wedding announcement.”
“Yes, Boss. To what extent?”
Jasper paused, then gave the order: “City–wide.”
Felix blinked in surprise. He knew exactly what this meant. Ms. Lowell’s position was finally secure. As for Tatiana… it had all been for nothing.
Soon, billboards across the city displayed the wedding announcement. It was billed as the wedding of the century. The best planning team in the world was hired, the venue was the most expensive hotel, Bianca’s dress was a one–of–a–kind haute couture creation, and every piece of jewelry she would wear was a priceless treasure. Every detail was a fairytale made real.
