This time, Zion wasn’t so easily fooled. She kept putting them off, and here they were, still stuck in a rented apartment. The little money she’d given them wasn’t nearly enough to buy a house in Dalliston and was long gone.

Zion ignored her promises. “Bianca, don’t you forget who raised you! We’re your real parents. If it weren’t for helping you achieve your dream, we wouldn’t have even lost our jobs! Don’t you dare turn your back on us!”

Bianca lowered her eyes, a sharp glint flashing within them. When she looked up, her expression was once again wounded and pitiful. “Dad, is that really what you think of me? Have I ever lied to you?”

Her words stopped Zion. It was true; his daughter had always been strong–willed, practically directing their every move. Even the whole switched–at–birth scheme had been her idea. They had been terrified at first, unable to comprehend how Bianca could dare attempt such a thing. But the future she painted was too tempting. For the sake of wealth and status, they took the gamble.

Zion’s mind raced. “You have lied about this! You kept saying you’d get us out of here, set us up with a good life. Look at us now!”

Linda couldn’t hold back either. “Yes, Bianca! We’re your real parents! Don’t you forget everything we did for you!”

Bianca smiled faintly. “Of course, I haven’t forgotten. I actually wanted to surprise you, but since you’re so anxious, I’ll tell you now.”

Their faces lit up with anticipation.

“I bought you a villa. It’s just been renovated, haven’t even moved in yet. Since you’re in such a hurry, how about tomorrow? Wait at the XX intersection, and I’ll have a driver take you to see it. If there’s anything you don’t like, just let me know.”

The couple was ecstatic. “A villa? Really? Where is it?”

“Yes, a villa. Three stories, in the fourth ring. Don’t worry, it has all the amenities, excellent location. You’ll love it.”

They were blinded by the good news, completely missing the flicker of murderous intent in their darling daughter’s eyes.

“Remember,” Bianca added, “Tomorrow night, eight o’clock, XX intersection. Wait for a white car. The driver will take you there.”

After sending them off, Bianca called Shawn and arranged to meet him at a hotel. Shawn agreed without hesitation.

“Bianca, what’s up?”

When she looked up, Shawn was taken aback. “Why are you crying? Who upset you? I’ll teach them a lesson!”

Bianca was sobbing pitifully, a picture of distress. “Shawn, I’m ruined. I don’t know what to do! sob… You’re the only one I could turn to. Help me, please, I’m begging you.”

Seeing his crush in tears shattered Shawn’s heart. He quickly comforted her. “Don’t cry, Bianca. Of course, I’ll help you. What happened? Aren’t you about to marry Jasper? That’s wonderful news.” The last part came out tinged with sourness. Against anyone else, Shawn would have put up a fight, but this was Jasper. He accepted defeat and resigned himself to being Bianca’s devoted follower.

“My adoptive parents… they’re threatening me. They say they took… private photos of me… and they want money. I’ve given them so much, again and again. I begged them to leave me alone, but they won’t stop. I don’t know what else to do, Shawn. What am I going to do?” She buried her face in his chest, crying. “You’re the only one I can tell. I don’t dare tell anyone else. I only trust you.”

Her last words sent a thrill through him. He felt ready to rip out his own heart for her. “Those monsters? Damn them! They abused you as a child, and now they dare to threaten you?”

“Yes! They’re demanding I buy them a house! Where would I get that kind of money? And even if I did, they’d just demand something else next. I can’t give them

any more!”

“Don’t give them anything! They’re obviously just trying to bleed you dry!” Shawn had seen plenty of greedy lowlifes like them. He knew they wouldn’t stop; they’d only push for more. Seeing Bianca crying so desperately, leaning against him, small and helpless, a powerful protective urge surged through him.

“Don’t worry. Leave this to me. Wait for my word. I promise they will never bother you again.”

Bianca felt a surge of triumph but kept her expression worried. “Really? Will it be too difficult for you? You’ve already helped me so much.”
