Everest's Guardian Hubby Watched Me Freeze My Ghost Knows Where He'll Burn novel Chapter 58

Chapter 3

The crack kept widening, growing more ominous with every passing second, until I could almost see the pain it would cause me. Yet, I clung on desperately, hopelessly waiting for Julian to say something—anything—that might change the course of what was happening.

Julian, the same man who once showered me with affection and would move mountains to fulfill my smallest wishes, simply shrugged as if it were no big deal.

“Relax,” he said casually.

“You two are best friends, aren’t you?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

My mind drifted back to the very first time I met him.

Julian had confided in me then.

“You know what I hate the most?” he said, his eyes darkening. “People who stab their friends in the back.”

He went on, “My mom cheated on my dad—with his best friend. When my dad found out, he didn’t want me anymore.”

“And my mom? She didn’t want me either.”

“I was like a damn volleyball,” he said bitterly, a twisted laugh escaping him. “They just kept tossing me between them until neither could stand me.”

He looked at me with a raw honesty that cut deep. “So, Aurora, I didn’t grow up with your perfect little family. My life’s been shattered. Always missing pieces.”

“Aurora.”

“You get that?”

Back then, I thought Julian was on the verge of breaking apart completely. Watching him unravel was breaking me too. So, I stayed silent, sitting beside him, just being there.

“Julian.”

“Someone’s going to love you,” I whispered.

“She’ll gather every broken piece of you. One by one. And she’ll say, ‘This is mine. That’s mine too.’”

“She’ll help you put yourself back together. Make you whole again. You’ll be happy.”

After that, Julian pursued me relentlessly. Everyone around us noticed. Everyone rooted for him, cheering him on.

He once took a grueling 36-hour train ride—no sleep, hard seats—just because I mentioned craving a pastry from a distant city.

During the early days of his startup, when money was tight and every meal was a calculated expense, he still splurged over a thousand dollars on a trendy cake I’d seen online for my birthday.

Another time, he was out of state on business, heard a storm was raging where I was, and drove through the night just to call and tell me, “Don’t be scared.” Then, as soon as the rain stopped, he left.
