Everest's Guardian Hubby Watched Me Freeze My Ghost Knows Where He'll Burn novel Chapter 62

Chapter 7

The woman standing before me, Lilac, was a stranger in every sense—someone I barely recognized anymore, as if the years had erased the girl I once thought I knew.

“I’ve been sick of you for years, Aurora,” she spat, her voice thick with bitterness. “Since we were kids, it’s always been a competition. Anything I cared about—people, things—you had to steal it away. But now? Now all I want is Julian. Just Julian! Why can’t you let me have him?”

Her expression contorted into something fierce and ugly, a mask of resentment I hadn’t seen before. I tried to recall if we had ever been close, but the memories felt distant, like fragments of a forgotten dream. I remembered a moment, though—a moment when I purposely flunked a question on my SAT, just because Lilac had broken down in tears and begged me not to leave her behind.

“Aurora,” she had whispered then, her voice trembling.

“I’m not as smart as you,” she’d admitted.

“What if we end up at different schools?” she’d asked, panic creeping into her tone.

Tears had streamed down her face.

“Aurora,” she had pleaded.

“I don’t want us to be apart.”

She didn’t want to be separated from me, but she wasn’t willing to fight for it. So I made a choice.

“We’ll never be apart,” I told her.

And with that, I deliberately sabotaged my SAT scores so we could attend the same local college.

My friends pitied me. My teachers tried to dissuade me. Even my parents—always my biggest supporters—felt disappointed for the first time. But in my heart, I believed it was worth every sacrifice.

Now, as Lilac screamed at me, her voice sharp and accusing, all I felt was a deep, aching disappointment. She kept shouting.

“Aurora! You’ve always been better than me at everything! You’re prettier! Your family’s rich! You’re smarter! Every guy I liked only wanted you! When you were around, I was just your shadow—completely invisible, like I didn’t even matter! But why, Aurora? Why?”

Her voice cracked as she broke down, tears pouring freely. Then, without warning, she raised her hand to strike me again. I caught her wrist firmly. She froze, surprised. In that moment, I slapped her back—hard enough to send her stumbling backward. But the blow left me feeling hollow, as if my entire body was fracturing from the inside.
