Natalie was on the verge of becoming my wife, but that guy thought she was just sulking at him?
I interrupted, “She’s swamped.” My voice was frosty, cold enough to unnerve any werewolf over the phone.
The line went dead silent. A few heartbeats later, Landon’s enraged bellow ripped through the quiet. “Who the hell are you? Where’s Natalie? Get her on the phone!”
I could just picture his face-a mask of disbelief, and the full fury of an Alpha whose turf’d been invaded.
“You aren’t worthy of knowing who I am!” I scoffed, not in the mood for his nonsense. I ended the call, powered off her phone, and chucked it back where it was. The air seemed to reek of that guy’s annoying scent.
Landon’s POV:
The dial tone left me rooted to the spot, my mind a blank slate for a second. Then, a white-hot rage, fueled by the sting of being dissed and challenged, shot through me. A guy? There was a guy with Natalie? And he used her phone?
I walloped the solid oak desk so hard it groaned. In a blind rage, I sent all the papers and trinkets flying. The crash of the broken decor pieces was deafening.
Aaliyah burst into the office, spooked by the ruckus. One look at the mess and my snarling face, and her voice cracked. “What’s going on, Landon?”
She hustled over and peeked at my phone screen, which was still showing Natalie’s number. Her face went as pale as a ghost. She’d kept quiet about the embarrassing run-in with Natalie at the investment firm yesterday, scared I’d go after her. And now, here I was, reaching out to
Natalie.
“Landon, you
can’t keep spoiling Natalie like this. We can make Thorn Pack work without her!” She tried to calm me down, or maybe just distract me.
“Yeah, right! We’re screwed without her! The company’s hanging by a thread, all thanks to Natalie!” I roared, my chest heaving like a winded wolf. Just the thought of that deep, icy voice on the phone and Natalie cozying up to another Alpha made my blood boil. I couldn’t tell if I was madder about the company or about her.

“Chill out, Landon!” Aaliyah raised her voice.

I took a few gasping breaths, trying to rein in my temper. Then, I gave the metal trash can a vicious kick, and it went clattering across the floor.
“I blew it. There’s another Alpha with Natalie,” I rasped, a hint of panic seeping into my voice.
This hit me harder than the company’s troubles. Natalie had been mine since college. She was so sweet, only caring about me and work. How could she possibly do that?
Aaliyah frowned, shock flitting across her face before turning into doubt. “No way. She…” She bit her tongue. “It’s gotta be one of her stunts. She’s trying to make you cave. Think about it. Natalie can’t live without you. Where else is she gonna find a real man?”
A stunt?
Her words splashed cold water on my anger, bringing me back to my senses. Yeah, Natalie was head over heels for me. She wouldn’t just switch sides. This was probably her way of forcing me to give her a piece of the company.
“Alright. If we have to, give her a slice of the group’s shares,” I sighed, rubbing my temples. As much as it rankled me, the company needed her. “She’s put in the work all these years. She’s earned it.” First, I would reel her back in. Once she was back in my orbit, I’d find out who that
