Lily couldn’t stop gushing about Leonardo. “Mr. Sanchez is so freaking hot! Natalie, I’m on the verge of tears for you! What’s Landon compared to him? Mr. Sanchez is definitely your fated mate!” She then went into the details of the day Leonardo carried me away, sparking a flurry of gossip among the girls.

Looking at the screen, I couldn’t help but smile. But I was a bit shy to chat more and wanted to focus on work. However, at the thought of tomorrow’s engagement dinner and Leonardo, those cold numbers on the screen just lost their appeal.

My mind was filled with the image of him coming to pick me up in the rain last night, his well- defined upper body, and the deep scar on his left shoulder. He always seemed so cold and composed, yet he kept making exceptions for me. He was clearly annoyed when pressured to get engaged today, but still agreed, maybe to comfort his grandparents and perhaps also for my sake? Did he really only see this as a strategic alliance?

Realizing my mind had wandered too far, I shook my head, trying to refocus on the screen. But that strange, sweet flutter in my heart was hard to calm.

Landon’s POV:

At 7:30 p.m. at the Seven-Star Crown Hotel, Aaliyah and I were supposed to have dinner with a big client on the top floor. But as soon as we got in the elevator, we were stopped.

“Sir, the whole hotel is booked today. No one can enter or leave without an invitation,” the waiter said.

“Booked the whole building?” Aaliyah’s shocked voice rang out. Who could afford to book the most expensive place in the city?

The waiter continued, “Don’t you know? It’s the engagement dinner of the heir of the Sanchez Group from Silver-Maned Pack. All the well-known werewolves in the city will be here.”

The words cut through my ears. Silver-Maned Pack, a colossus that Thorn Pack could never

match.

Just then, a limousine pulled up. Surrounded by werewolf guards, a slender figure walked into the lobby. From just a side view, a strange, intense sense of familiarity hit me, along with a faint, barely detectable scent that made my blood boil.

“Natalie?” I murmured almost unconsciously.

In a flash, the woman disappeared from my sight under the escort of the crowd.

“Natalie? Are you still thinking about her at this time?” Aaliyah’s voice was sharply nervous.

“I think I saw Natalie…” I pointed forward, my voice a bit hoarse. It felt so much like her, even without seeing her face clearly, just from the outline and that faint scent.

“Come on! The whole place is booked! Do you really think the woman who got out of that car was Natalie?” Aaliyah scoffed without hiding her mockery.

I also thought it was absurd. How could Natalie be at the engagement dinner of the Silver- Maned Pack’s heir? She should be in some corner, stressed about her project, or maybe trying to get my attention this way.

After Aaliyah and I were “escorted” out of the cordon by the waiters and guards, I watched as the following VIPs flashed their cards and walked in. Aaliyah mumbled, “What a grand event. No wonder it’s the Sanchez family throwing it.”

Back in the car, on a whim, I took out my phone and opened Natalie’s social account. Seeing that she’d updated her status to “working” a few hours ago, I secretly let out a sigh of relief.

Natalie always changed her status to “working” when she was swamped.

So, she was still buried in work. Maybe it was something related to the company, or perhaps she’d taken on a side gig? Natalie was competent, and she once mentioned going to other packs to expand her horizons. And that guy who answered her phone… Maybe someone dangled a great opportunity in front of her?

Was that why she asked for a share in the company?

Maybe it was just her way of getting my attention. Or maybe that guy made all sorts of empty promises, filling her head with ideas of leaving Thorn Pack.

But I was sure as hell that Natalie would snap out of it and come back to me. She couldn’t do without me or Thorn Pack. As a low-rank half-breed Beta werewolf, she should be grateful to be with my family. What could she possibly achieve on her own?
