Benjamin forced a cold smile. He knew I was no longer the easy-to-push-around girl. And he also knew the company needed me at this moment. But in his eyes, I’d always be an outsider, a pawn to be used but also guarded against.

“Natalie, I recognize your capabilities. But I don’t want you to let your tiff with Landon affect the pack’s interests. After all, this is the fruit of our family’s hard work,” he said, with a tone of condescension.

“Family?” I almost scoffed. “I’m on the same page as you, Mr. Benjamin Richardson. Transfer 50% of the company’s shares to me, and I’ll immediately lead my team to restart that stalled key project.”

Benjamin’s face darkened. “Natalie, our whole family only holds 70% of the shares. Landon scraped together 40% for you. That’s the utmost sincerity.” He slid a prepared transfer agreement in front of me, his tone brooking no argument.

Landon only had 20%. It was only with his mother’s and sister’s shares that they’d barely managed to reach 40%. And Benjamin would never give me his share. Part of it belonged to Landon’s late grandfather, and he had no right to dispose of it. Plus, Landon’s grandmother could take it back at any time.

I glanced at the agreement but didn’t touch it right away. I said, meeting his gaze sharply, “Landon promised me half before. I’m back with new projects and resources, Mr. Benjamin Richardson. I think what you need isn’t just someone to clean up the mess, but a partner who can bring new opportunities. Forty percent hardly shows the sincerity of a partnership.”

With that, I took out a thick file from my bag-the hunting rights contract for the Northern Forest that the Richardson Group had been trying to get for years. Its value was enough to drive the whole pack wild. If they got it, all the previous losses of the Richardson Group would be insignificant, and the pack’s status would soar.

Benjamin’s and Landon’s eyes lit up instantly. Benjamin even instinctively reached out to grab it.

But I pulled the file back, sighed softly, and said, “It’s a pity, though. Since our levels of sincerity don’t match, I don’t think it’s worth wasting more time. From today on, I’m officially leaving Thorn Pack.” I placed my ID badge and the wolf pack token on the table and stood up

to leave.

Landon lunged forward and grabbed my arm, his voice tight with anxiety. “Natalie! Don’t be so

hot-headed! What can’t we work out? In front of Dad, can’t you just give us a break and show a bit of respect for the family?”

I yanked my arm free, my tone as cold as ice. “I’m not gonna say it again. A partnership is built on trust. You guys lured me back with the promise of 50% shares, but what you’re offering now is way off. If I cave in this time, how can I trust that you won’t stab me in the back when I’m out there fighting for the pack?”

My words cut deep, leaving him completely tongue-tied.

“Natalie! You’re being unreasonable! Why would we scheme against you?” Landon tried to mask his unease with anger.

“Enough!” Benjamin growled, slamming his fist on the thick, solid-wood table with a dull thud. He stared at me, his fangs barely visible. Finally, as if making a huge decision, he said, “I’ll promise you. I’ll scrape together another 10% of the shares for you, but it’ll take time. Sign this 40% transfer agreement first and get back to the pack right away to lead the team.”

I settled back into my seat. Assuming I had caved in, Benjamin promptly had his assistant and the contract witness verify the agreement’s legitimacy and gestured for me to put my signature on it.

After I signed, the agreement became binding. Yet, when he attempted to peek at the file in my hand again, I rebuffed him once more.

I said, “Mr. Benjamin Richardson, have no worries. Once you keep your word and I officially acquire half of the pack’s shares, this hunting contract will be yours.”

Benjamin was caught off guard by my move. The veins on his forehead popped out, and the overbearing presence of an Alpha filled the room in an instant, but he managed to rein it in. “Natalie, are you threatening me?” he growled in a low, enraged voice, dropping all pretenses.

Landon leaned in close to my ear and hissed urgently, “Natalie, Dad has already made compromises! Take what you’ve gained and hand over the contract! He’ll hold you in high regard in the family from now on!”
